Experienced Executive Director with a demonstrated history of managing a diverse team and organizational operations. Skilled in strategic planning, workforce development, and communications, especially in the field of prevention and problem gambling. Derek has attained certification from the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board as an Ohio Certified Prevention Consultant and The International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium as an Internationally Certified Prevention Specialist. He obtained an MBA from Ohio Dominican University, a BA in Psychology from The Ohio State University, and a Certificate in Social Enterprise from The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business. Derek has been in the substance abuse prevention field for 30 years and has presented at local, state, and national events throughout the U.S. In 2010 he founded The ATOD Prevention Group, LLC, a private training and consulting company, which has provided an opportunity for connecting with communities throughout the U.S. Through the ATOD Prevention Group, he provides group facilitation on topics such as coalition development, non-profit leadership, strategic planning, evidence-based prevention strategies, prevention ethics. Derek is a Master SAPST trainer and has tremendous experience and expertise in all levels of the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF).Beginning as a contract role in 2016 and becoming a full-time position in 2020, Derek serves as the Executive Director of the Problem Gambling Network of Ohio, a statewide, membership-based organization, with the mission of building a network of support for those impacted by gambling through education, collaboration, and research. As one accustomed to wearing many hats, Derek supports many state and national organizations and committees; including the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) as Treasurer, Char of the Finance Committee, and member of the Affiliate and Membership committees; Ohio Problem Gambling Advisory Board, Policy and Infrastructure committee co-chair; Ohio Prevention Advocacy Network co-chair; the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board Prevention committee; the IC&RC prevention committee, Ohio representative; Worthington C.A.R.E.S. coordinating council member. Prevention and health promotion are not only his profession but also his passion.
