I have always been curious and passionate about life sciences, especially about biotechnology. My career interests pivot on the entire process of discovery, design and implementation of innovative therapies based on cutting-edge research, especially in those areas where I could offer my knowledge to support or manage progress in those stages. After gaining some lab experience in Germany, I enrolled in a competitive MSc/Ph.D. program in Molecular Biology at the International Max-Planck Research School in Göttingen where I became a versatile scientist with 4+ years of experience in applying Molecular Biology to Auditory Neuroscience and specifically demonstrating the feasibility of innovative optogenetic approaches to restore audition. After achieving my objectives in basic research, I am taking on the new challenge of leading my career towards clinical trials management, where I can make the most of my acquired skills, and my commitment and eagerness to learn will help to achieve new goals. Here is a brief summary: RESEARCH: ● Experience: 8+ years working in molecular biology, auditory neuroscience, biotechnology, biochemistry and clinical trials (hematology). ● Scientific writing: one patent, one thesis with distinction summa cum laude and three co-first author publications in first-rate journals.● Oral communication skills: three posters at international meetings, one prize, and three seminar presentations. ● Teaching & Mentoring: supervised a Master's thesis, practical training for Ph.D. students. CLINICAL TRIALS MANAGEMENT: ● Coordination of multiple myeloma clinical trials (Phase I-III).● Support to the coordination of acute myeloid leukemia clinical trials.● Liaison between investigators and Sponsor/CRO.● Coordination and scheduling of site initiation visits.● Timely data entry & query resolution into eCRFs.● Update and maintenance of TCF and Patient's Files. SOFTWARE:● Microsoft Office, Adobe Illustrator, iMedidata, REDCap, SAP, ImageJ, data analysis in Matlab and Python. TRANSFERABLE SKILLS:● Adaptability, ability to work under pressure, time management skills, multitasking, active listening & learning, analytical and methodical thinking, project management, teamwork, intercultural communication. ● Characterized optogenetic responses in auditory sensory neurons of mice by dynamic range using f-Chrimson: an engineered fast-gating, red-shifted opsin.● Compared optogenetic and acoustically-driven responses.● Ensured the continuation of spin-off projects by training, supervising and mentoring Ph.D. students on in vivo electrophysiological techniques, such as optically-evoked auditory brainstem responses and single-neuron recordings in the auditory nerve.
Göttingen Area, Germany
● Established and characterized cochlear optogenetics as an alternative strategy for hearing restoration in mice resulting in three co-first author publications.● Optimized two fast-gating opsins with AAVs as gene vehicles to transduce spiral ganglion neurons: * f-Chrimson, with a red-shifted action spectrum (Mager et al., 2018, Nature Communications). * Chronos ES/TS, an optimized Chronos construct (Keppeler et al., 2018, EMBO Journal).● Developed high-quality skills in molecular biology techniques, such as molecular cloning using PCR and site-directed mutagenesis.● Brought cochlear optogenetics closer to clinical application by validating a post-natal method for delivering opsin-coding genes to the inner ear using in vivo electrophysiology. ● Contributed single-neuron recordings to a parallel project studying sound encoding in a mouse mutant lacking synaptic ribbons (RIBEYE KO) (Jean et al., 2018, eLife).● Gained extensive experience in scientific writing and data presentation, with three posters in international conferences, and three oral presentations in Ph.D. seminars. ● Developed project management skills by delivering results for three projects in parallel. ● Boosted my interpersonal and intercultural communication skills by developing collaborations with colleagues from my group and other research institutes.● Published one WIPO patent (f-Chrimson) resulting from the promotion of a robust partnership with the Max-Planck Institute for Biophysics.● Refined my organizational and time management skills at multitasking and adapting to changing conditions. ● Organization several practical courses on in vivo electrophysiology for Ph.D. students ● Mentored a master's student and supervised a master’s thesis.
Göttingen Area, Germany
● Established and optimized an in vitro method for testing the expression of different opsin variants using microinjections in cultured explanted inner ear tissue to help AAV diffusion for gene delivery. ● Generated plasmids and subcloned opsin genes for AAV production and confocal/fluorescence microscopy imaging.
Göttingen Area, Germany
● Work funded by Erasmus-LLP and Goya-Mundus programs.● Explored applications of aptamers and nanobodies at improving the resolving power of super-resolution microscopy (STED) in a research group that pioneered biological applications of this revolutionary technology.● Refined sample embedding and microsection for STED, confocal and STED image acquisition and processing, ion-exchange HPLC and protein activity assays among other techniques.
Göttingen Area, Germany
● Erasmus Internship Project: "Study of a possible interaction between Tbr1 and KGA in the cytoplasm of mature neurons" (Department of Neuroanatomy).● Identified interactions of the transcription factor Tbr1 and the glutaminase KGA in mature neurons of the mice cerebral cortex by means of PCR, co-immunoprecipitation, western blotting, and confocal imaging.
