● Established and characterized cochlear optogenetics as an alternative strategy for hearing restoration in mice resulting in three co-first author publications.● Optimized two fast-gating opsins with AAVs as gene vehicles to transduce spiral ganglion neurons: * f-Chrimson, with a red-shifted action spectrum (Mager et al., 2018, Nature Communications). * Chronos ES/TS, an optimized Chronos construct (Keppeler et al., 2018, EMBO Journal).● Developed high-quality skills in molecular biology techniques, such as molecular cloning using PCR and site-directed mutagenesis.● Brought cochlear optogenetics closer to clinical application by validating a post-natal method for delivering opsin-coding genes to the inner ear using in vivo electrophysiology. ● Contributed single-neuron recordings to a parallel project studying sound encoding in a mouse mutant lacking synaptic ribbons (RIBEYE KO) (Jean et al., 2018, eLife).● Gained extensive experience in scientific writing and data presentation, with three posters in international conferences, and three oral presentations in Ph.D. seminars. ● Developed project management skills by delivering results for three projects in parallel. ● Boosted my interpersonal and intercultural communication skills by developing collaborations with colleagues from my group and other research institutes.● Published one WIPO patent (f-Chrimson) resulting from the promotion of a robust partnership with the Max-Planck Institute for Biophysics.● Refined my organizational and time management skills at multitasking and adapting to changing conditions. ● Organization several practical courses on in vivo electrophysiology for Ph.D. students ● Mentored a master's student and supervised a master’s thesis.
