I have been involved in loss prevention, risk management, emergency management, business continuity, and crisis management within a diverse range of industries for over 30 years. I am an educator, a frequent public speaker, and a published author of six books and dozens of articles on the subjects of emergency management, business continuity, risk management, terrorism, and related subjects. I am past-chair of the technical committee that is responsible for writing the USA's National Preparedness Standard, NFPA 1600. I serve on the USA's technical advisory group to the ISO 292 committee responsible for ISO's 223 series of emergency management and business continuity standards. I also serve on national committees writing standards on pre-incident planning, school emergency preparedness, and homeland security applications.I teach graduate degree and professional development courses in emergency management, business continuity, and program auditing for DRI International, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, and previously for the National Fire Protection Association, .My goal is to help organizations understand hazard and operational risk and implement programs to protect their employees, facilities, operations, reputations, and stakeholder relationships.My specialties include risk assessment, loss prevention, hazard mitigation, emergency planning, business continuity planning, crisis management, training, and exercise development, facilitation, and evaluation as well as program auditing.
