I've helped several companies energize, engage, and empower their employees using the steps outlined below. Usually, when I arrive, things are bad and getting worse, culturally speaking. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀Once you can see the problem, understand it's worse than you think. Burying your head in the sand won't work, neither will a half-hearted effort with minimal buy-in. You have to take immediate and intentional steps to reorient the culture. Without real buy-in from management at all levels, any cultural remediation program will at best fail, and at worst, accelerate the descent into madness.𝟮. 𝗘𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆One leadership team member, at a former client, was asked about upcoming changes and replied that she "didn't know" the answers. This wasn't true and her staff knew it wasn't true. This "white lie" undermined her credibility and only made things worse. I encouraged her, as I'm encouraging you, to tell people what they can know, and in other matters, tell them that the answers aren't finalized yet. 𝟯. 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻When your culture is on the skids, management often isn't talking about it. But do you know who is? Everybody else. Address the elephant in the room. Ask for suggestions.
