LCN.com is one of the top 5 Domain Registrars in the UK. Between their various brands, they have registered over 350,000 .uk domains and hundreds of VPS customers.The development team consist of 5 developers and 3 designers and reported to the Development Manager. Responsibilities included the day to day workings of the entire development team, leading daily scrums, ensuring code quality and providing daily and weekly progress updates to management. At the start and the end of each sprint, leading the Sprint Burndown/ Retrospective meetings and ensuing that all developers were happy with the next sprint in the planning meeting. Majority of development was carried on the company's main brand, www.lcn.com. Successfully introduced coding standards including use of git, rspec, cucumber and keeping the business up to date with on going projects by conducting many on going demos. Enforced deployment practices to ensure that all automated test pass and all departments were notified before product releases. Also responsible for interviewing prospective new developers and assessed their technical skills.

Responsible for expanding and managing the software development team to a total of three members. As the team grew, practices such as Scrum, PP, XP, TTD and BDD were trialled and the most useful taken forward. Projects have been heavily integrated with 3rd party solutions via API's and code libraries. As new features were required from 3rd parties, specifications were negotiated and delivery dates tightly controlled.Developed software for internal use and conducted training sessions for staff in Scotland and London offices. Constant contact was maintained with staff using the software to ensure future enhancements to the software were in line with user requirements.Daily responsibilities revolved around staff training, specification writing, project research, project initial development, bug fixing, and infrastructure maintenance. Weekly and monthly reports were generated and presented to management detailing the progress of current projects and schedules for the upcoming period.

Commenced software development and installed the required infrastructure being the first software developer at Ultraspeed. Major projects included PHP / MySQL based programs to provide features for the Managed hosting client database. This included deploying a development environment and installing tools such as trac to ensure code related issues could be tracked. Apart from development, involved in the research and deployment of the Ultraspeed Diskless Server System which saw a world first in managed hosting. In addition to this, previous support responsibilities continued.Responsible for providing 2nd/3rd line support to the Ultraspeed customer base. This role consisted of manning an email-based helpdesk ticketing system as well as providing telephone support to high value customers. Day to day management of CentOS (Linux) based cPanel boxes and Windows Server 2000. Also experience setting up and maintating complex hosting solutions based around firewalls, load balancers, CISCO switches and a varity of Linux and Windows servers and hardware management.Worked full time in the London offices during the holidays, and undertook part-time shift work from home while studying at University (including overnight support one night per week).

Worked closely with the Head of Software Development in designing and maintaining the software code working primarily with the C MySQL API and writing man pages for internal programs.
