Developing spatially-explicit models of ecosystem carbon sequestration and emissions across all of California. Building analytical tools to assess how state policy and climate change scenarios interact to affect the ability of California's ecosystems to mitigate climate change and meet state greenhouse gas targets.

Continuing collaborative research on tropical forest function and conservation at landscape to regional scales. Developing collaborative work around science-based frameworks for evaluating how land management and state policies will affect carbon removals or emissions from California ecosystems.

As part of Greg Asner's lab at the Department of Global Ecology (cao.carnegiescience.edu), my research focused on how global change affects the ecological composition, structure, biomass, and function of Neotropical forests. Projects involved the use of remote sensing data (LiDAR and imaging spectroscopy) to uncover how species, functional traits, forest structure, and carbon stocks vary across forest landscapes and regions of the Amazon.

My dissertation research focused on the impacts of climate change on tropical forest function and carbon storage. Projects included developing remote sensing methods to map and monitor plant growth forms over large areas of tropical forest. Other projects included experimental investigations on the effect of elevated carbon dioxide on tropical plant growth forms.
