I joined BC Hydro as it was trying to convince the newly formed BCTC that is was an agile, valuable service provider. By forming honest, open relationships, listening and understanding the client’s needs, remaining flexible, and keeping promises, I helped build a strong, lasting partnership between the businesses.Along with delivering engineering and construction products, I was regularly called upon to represent the client at public consultation meetings, First Nation meetings, and meetings with NGOs and other external stakeholders, and the British Columbia Utilities Commission (the provincial utility regulator). Achievements:• Delivered the engineering design project for the $700M Interior to Lower Mainland (ILM) project, a 247km long, 500kV transmission line between Vancouver and Merritt, BC, Canada.• Delivered the corridor selection report and engineering design for the $115M Columbia Valley Transmission (CVT) project, a 114km long, 230kV transmission line in the Purcell Mountains of eastern British Columbia, Canada.• Delivered the repair of a damaged 500kV submarine cable between mainland British Columbia and Vancouver Island. This used a new technique to restore ‘wet’ cable insulating paper in-situ, thereby avoiding replacement expenditure of more than $10M. • Led and delivered the program of engineering feasibility studies and network upgrade estimates for the interconnection of candidate Independent Power Producers (IPPs) as part of the BC Hydro Clean Power Call. A total of 63 projects were studied over three months, with project sizes ranging from 5MW to 1000MW, and estimates for network upgrades ranging from $100k to $100M. Show less

This key infrastructure project involved the fast-track delivery of dedicated high capacity 11kV feeders, a 25MVA temporary substation to power two tunnel boring machines, and the relocation of 11kV, LV, and streetlight services. • Leading the route selection, easement acquisition, design and construction for an overhead double circuit 110kV feeder for a Queensland Rail (QR) traction substation near Ipswich. From 1998 to 2004, I held other roles where I managed the planning and delivery of SCADA and other ICT systems that support real-time network operations. Some of my achievements include: • As SCADA Services Manager, I delivered the operational support and expansion of all SCADA systems used for HV network management. This included the hardware and software for master station production and support environments, as well as test environments for 250 substations and 200 telemetered remote switches.• Leading the installation and post-implementation support of the CAE/GE Gen-E Distribution Management System (DMS). I delivered the commissioning program to replace the legacy SCADA system, and established and managed the operational support team.• Delivering large telecommunications programs, including the Energex 900MHz Distribution SCADA System mesh radio network and the Acatel-based MPLS network.
