About Daniel M. Buckner
You know how engineers tell that story about how they once took apart their dad’s favorite clock to figure out how it worked? Well, I was the kid who showed them how to put it back together before dad got home.I’ve always loved “stuff”. If something moves, makes noise, lights up, or comes apart, it has my attention. While most kids spent their summers playing baseball or hanging out at the pool, I was at space camp building rockets. I was the boy scout who skipped hiking merit badge to build a merry-go-round out of sticks and rope. The only thing that fascinates me more than something that moves is something that has stopped moving; I’m persistent (almost obsessive) about fixing things that break.I’m also an idealist; I see things for what they could be. I believe that the saying “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it” was started by someone with neither vision nor passion. Sometimes it’s the product that needs attention while other times it’s the way a thing is made that needs work. Either way, there’s always an opportunity for improvement. My resume lists several different titles, but I have always thought of myself as an improvement engineer. I construct new designs that improve performance and I enjoy fixing problems that no one else can tackle. I create new processes that improve products and reduce waste. I can also use statistics to figure out if a small improvement today will make a big difference later. Finally, I believe in improving my organization. It’s not enough to make a product better; we also have to improve the way our company does business. I enjoy teaching, whether it’s delivering training to a crowded room, coaching project teams in a special analysis, or mentoring new hires.
Listed skills include Six Sigma, Product Development, Fmea, Project Management, and 46 others.
