Daniel was instrumental in getting this project started in late 2012, and went on to continue to grow the relationship with this organisation despite the geographic distance. To achieve this Daniel was always happy to travel, spending an accumulated 5 months in the Philippines in 2013, as a result of this hard work and dedication this project is currently finalising the 5th Phase of delivery, with a further 2 Phases currently in the planning stages. Whilst Daniel wasn’t travelling he also undertook responsibilities assisting the internal organisation with IT strategy and on occasion internal IT support. He also stepped in to a technical leadership position for a new product to the Cortell stack, IBM Cognos BI, Daniel was instrumental in establishing a skill set for this product at Cortell. He has gone on to lead a team dedicated to using the IBM Cognos stack to deliver innovative solutions to common business problems for Cortell’s clients. In his role as a Senior Consultant Daniel continued to be involved with the development of QUBEdocs, the development team for this product went through several iterations, beginning with Daniel and a part time developer, and quickly expanding to Daniel managing two developers working full time on the solution. Recognising that this rapid growth needed to be tempered with some control Daniel was quick to implement the SCRUM methodology, this has ensured that product development was consistently on track and the product owners’ expectations were met

Business Intelligence ConsultantMindfull (Formerly Cortell Nz) Sep 2011 - May 2013Auckland, NzAfter spending 2 years in business development with Cortell, Daniel opted to take on a slightly different challenge and take his Pre-Sales skills on to client sites to deliver the solutions he had been selling. As a Business Intelligence Consultant Daniel was heavily involved on a number of different projects focussing on multiple different industries. Most notably whilst working for a Hospital Group in Bangkok to deliver a financial planning solution Daniel happily stepped up and took ownership of key deliverables to ensure the success of the delivery. This often resulted in extreme hours, and in one case a two day turn around between trips to Thailand. During his time as a Business Intelligence Consultant Daniel proved his worth in being able to diagnose and resolve technical issues related to the support of Cortell’s clients. Daniel also pushed to be more involved in the Business Analysis phases of projects, and used his natural problem solving skills to relate to business problems, and assist in the design of Business Analytics solutions. Whilst working as a Business Intelligence Consultant Daniel also began development on a side project for Cortell that involved writing an application to perform analysis on Data Models and produce automated documentation. This solution has gone on to become an internationally sold model documentation tool, QUBEdocs.

Daniel was offered this role after demonstrating an ability to follow up on opportunities and think outside the box. He cemented his position within Cortell by taking on additional responsibilities around the management and growth of Cortell’s IT Infrastructure. During Daniels time at Cortell he has been instrumental in the development of business in locations across New Zealand, increasing market share in New Plymouth, Dunedin and Invercargill.

These reports were based upon existing reports that were compiled manually by staff as required, and by creating them using Microsoft Reporting Services they can now be compiled as required quickly and easily, with customised parameters.Zephyr Consulting had also identified some possible upgrades to the existing Online Timesheet Application, and Backend accounting system. Daniel implemented a large number of these changes to better provide a more thorough workflow for Zephyr Consulting administrative team. -

Daniel has applied himself well to this role, providing excellent service to FXNZ clients in the lower South Island. His ability to think laterally and the skills he has obtained during his time at the University of Otago have added to his repertoire as a Customer Support Analyst. Daniel’s skills developed at the University of Otago also allowed him to demonstrate his knowledge of business analysis to improve existing business processes at Fuji Xerox Dunedin.
