Member of a team of 3 engineers supporting a service provider WAN with 4 PoPs and 200+ customer sites. In the past few years we have virtualized our server environment, implemented a Fibre Channel SAN, and upgraded our core capacity to 10Gbps, with 1 Gbps inter-site links.Day to day examples:- Provide phone, email, or on-site support to any of 200+ customer sites- Coordinate in the addition of an ISP to our core network and the turn up of a new PoP- Craft a new customer route distribution process to simplify ISP load balancing- Research and develop new applications for libraries in the state- Integrate data from management applications, including PRTG and WhatsUp, with our help desk system to enhance problem visibility and streamline operationsWhen I get a minute away from providing support to customers on tasks ranging from firewall changes to VoIP migrations to circuit upgrades, I develop and contribute to open source software relevant to the greater library community.

- Worked in a small team providing technical support to a staff of 75+.- Participated in a campus-wide upgrade from Nortel switches to Cisco 3750 switches, including drafting and implementing a VLAN strategy for what had been a flat network- Participated in a transition from legacy PBX system to Cisco VoIP system, incl. deployment of 7900 series phones, ATAs, and development of an in-house call accounting system.- Converted several major web sites from table-based to CSS-based layout, saving over 30% on each page load and 60% on disk size while maintaining appearance.
