I monitored global tax legislation reform (including ATAD II, HK FSIE, and Pillar I & II), performed risk assessment of tax law changes, and designed steps to reduce risk. Through a multiyear series of projects, proactively helped eliminate over $1B of tax risk introduced by Pillar II. Also, led a cross-functional team in the implementation of steps to remove $693M of HK tax risk from Hong Kong foreign-source income exemption regime changes.I collaborated with the treasury team to facilitate global cash mobility (e.g., fundings and repatriation). I coordinated tax hedge identification to assist capital markets’ initiatives. I supported the treasury team to repatriate $4.7B and $13.3B at an ETR of 1.1% and 0.6% in FY21 and FY22, respectively. I steered the creation of a new Power BI dashboard to dynamically communicate repatriation costs to leadership.I researched US tax technical issues to drive value for Walmart and to protect the company from unexpected surprises. I did lunch 'n' learns for the planning team on section 245A(c) and the application of the rules to nimble dividends and hedging. I helped the quant team to model changes to the company's FTC profile after the release of the final FTC regulations. I analyzed the interplay of the temporary and final 163(j) regulations with the SRLY limitation rules and the impact of foreign inclusions on ATI, then documented conclusions in a tax memo. The documented conclusions supported the release of a $27M valuation allowance.I was part of the roll out and implementation of the "centers of excellence" to the foreign markets. I partnered with foreign tax teams in India and China to guide them through local planning projects using established best practices and served as a conduit to socialize projects with US leadership. I stepped in for six months when a director left Walmart such that the local planning projects stayed on target and there was not a drop in implementation.

I designed and built a fully automated foreign tax credit (FTC) model, incorporating all the taxlaw changes from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and related Treasury regulations AES, which had never claimed FTCs, claimed FTC benefits in the financial statements of $19M for 2018 and $30M for 2019.I was AES’s subject matter expert on previously taxed earnings and profits (PTEP) for PTEP rules related to Notice 2019-01 and the PTEP regulations. I helped AES understand the interaction of the section 250 deduction and section 163(j) by quantified the impact of using the correct ordering rules. I also wrote AES's initial technical summary of the proposed and final GILTI regulations, including the GILTI high-tax regulations.I modeled the impacts of BEAT, GILTI, and 163(j) proposed regulations on AES’s tax expense, and I identified a GILTI tax planning opportunity that would have saved $90M in GILTI.I provided in-depth US tax comments on AES’s international step plans, ensuring that all UStax implications of proposed foreign transactions were analyzed, to facilitate timely reviewby senior tax leadership. The improved quality of the US tax comments and decreased the tax return preparation time.I researched and wrote AES’s technical memos on FTCs, foreign-derived intangible income, and M&A transactions. The comprehensive documentation of tax positions streamlined the review by AES’s auditors.I created a workpaper to quantify the risk of losing a CFC's qualified business asset investment and foreign tax paid or accrued due to the CFC being in a tested loss position. I also created a workpaper to show the effect of the net used tested loss adjustment basis. Both of these workpapers provided insight that allowed the international tax planning team to proactively plan into more favorable positions.

I worked with PwC foreign teams to develop a dynamic ETR model to analyze various IPCo solutions, taking into account the interplay of GILTI, for a request for proposal for a Fortune 500 medical device manufacturer. I used my knowledge on the new technical rules (e.g., GILTI, 163(j), and FDII) to formulate positions on appropriate modeling methodologies. I then used Tableau to create impactful visuals to show the results of the modeling.I reviewed the quarterly results, and I tested the year-end, of a Fortune 500 automotive supplier's foreign tax credit model and the international portion of its effective tax rate reconciliation. I noticed there was a gap in our testing, so I implemented new testing to test components that were previously untested. I adjusted the sensitivity analysis for greater predictability of the usage of foreign tax credits before expiration.I updated and maintained a foreign tax credit model for another Fortune 500 automotive supplier. I calculated the earnings and profits (E&P) that drove the foreign tax credit modeling. I created workpapers in order to file 5471s, 5472s, 8858s, and 5452s. I recognized that I was doing very repetitive tasks. Therefore, I independently sought out trainings and expert individuals in Alteryx in order to become knowledgeable on the software. I then used my gained knowledge to build Alteryx workflows to automate the vast majority of the E&P calculation process. I pulled data from the client's ERP system for the entire engagement, including domestic entities for the federal tax team.I particpated in international tax technical calls with the PwC national research team. I researched technical questions in the Internal Revenue Code, Treasury Regulations, tax treaties and court cases, and I wrote technical memos on the questions I researched. I created PowerPoint slides for global restructurings that included organizational charts and US tax comments.

I interned in the Tax Projects Delivery Group (TPDG) practice at PwC. I used my data management and analytical skills to prepare depreciation workpapers for the client. I gathered data at the client, participated in a work proposal, and built pivot tables using advanced Excel functions. I also used my internship to learn about different areas of tax. I worked with the international tax group, performing research on valuation allowances for an audit client. As part of my internship, I volunteered for Challenge Detroit. I identified an opportunity to simplify its survey feedback process. Using Google Scripts, I wrote a code that automated the accumulation of survey responses.
