I am a chartered (CEng CSci REnvP MIMMM) senior materials engineer in the offshore renewables sector. I typically analyse the effect of high voltages and environmental factors on the materials used in energy capture and recovery. I use various analytical methods to do this, including; FTIR, DSC, DMA/Rheology, microscopy, Karl Fischer moisture content analysis, XRF, impedance spectroscopy and voltage breakdown. I also perform and witness forensic failure investigations with experience in root cause analysis. My lab is UKAS accredited to provide high quality independent testing. My qualifications are in mathematics and I am also experienced in mathematical/analytical modelling, CFD simulations, coding and data analysis. I love solving industrial processing issues either by understanding material flow response, flow instabilities or formulation.

Experimental techniques being used include linear and extensional rheology, DMA, TGA, DSC, multipass rhometry. These are then analysed with constitutive theories for polymer melts and CFD simulations are used to analyse various aspects of the stress response to flow. Show less -
Assistant Professor, LecturerDurham University Jan 2017 - Dec 2017Durham, United KingdomLecturer in the Numerical Analysis group in the Department of Mathematical Sciences. I lectured undergraduate classes ranging from 20 to 200 students at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. I was the PI on an EPSRC impact acceleration award with the adhesives company Henkel. We used mathematical models and experimental rheology to describe the flow properties of various polyurethane adhesives to give the company a predictive tool for understanding how to process new formulations. -
Research AssociateDurham University Oct 2012 - Dec 2016Durham, United KingdomI was a post-doctoral research associate working on an ERC grant, “Geometry, instability and activity in complex and biological fluids”. My research focus was using linear stability analysis and non-linear numerical simulations to characterise the onset of instability (necking) when drawing out a filament of complex fluid such as polymer solutions, polymer melts and soft-glassy materials. -
Postdoctoral Knowledge Transfer FellowDurham University Nov 2010 - Sep 2012Durham, United KingdomI have worked on several projects at Durham University applying the fundamental research from my PhD to industrial applications. I equipped myself with several experimental techniques which added to my theoretical background and enabled me to gain knowledge transfer funding to work with two companies. These techniques included; rheological analysis, ion-beam analysis, DMA, TGA, DSC and AFM measurements.
