How we did it in Tonic.Tonic is a leading patient data collection and CRM platformThis is a company of professionals, who do all their best. At a time when the product has gained it popularity and number of new customers has grown steadily, the load growth has increased as well. It has become necessary to implement a process of continuous performance testing.I started to build the Performance testing from the scratch in 2015 and step -by-step widen coverage of functionality and performance team. Set of technologies: SQL/noSQL databases, ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ message brokers, Docker technology, Amazon S3, Redis, ElasticSearch etc. The application is divided into a web part, iOS Android mobile clients, a server part from a variety of services and processes, an integration part for communication with EMR systems as well. SOAP, REST paradigms, HL7, HTTP, AMQP protocols were used, PHP (Symfony) and Java. As a result of 2 years hard work, the performance testing has been introduced into the company, formalised and now is an integral part of the development. This process consists of the next steps: analysing statistics and gathering requirements, preparing test data, choosing tool and test approach, writing the load emulator code, performing tests series, publication all test reports in a understandable format at the internal confluence pages. The company exists 7+ years, every month hundreds of thousands of new patients are registered in the system, hundreds of thousands of appointments and completed surveys are processed. In order to constantly maintain the quality and speed of work with the growing volume of data, we implemented the acceptance testing in the company. This is a package of tests covering the most priority processes, so we are able to control the quality of releases, (the ability of the new version of the code work with the actual amount of data and level of load), and carry out the tests taking into account the growth of the load for the year ahead.
