As Principal Software Engineer, I lead teams and contribute to software development and business development on a range of projects involving big data, social media, social network analysis, decision modeling, and neurophysiology, with a focus on transitioning research work to operational communities.As Division Software Engineer, I contribute to strategic software initiatives, foster knowledge sharing and skill development for the software engineers in the Cognitive Systems division, report on software community initiatives to leadership, and take a leadership role in hiring full-time and intern positions.My responsibilities also include developing business through writing proposals (e.g., SBIR/STTR, BAA), delivering presentations and software demonstrations, and fostering the growth of shared software components and products throughout the company.I designed and developed the first version of our in-house network analysis library ("Connect"), contributed to the advancement of network analysis science and techniques through scientific papers and presentations (e.g., at INSNA Sunbelt), and am leading the development of our next generation of network analysis software.I have also had the opportunity to:- Develop a software team from a 3-person research initiative to a 13-person Agile product team and serve as team lead and Product Manager (2007-2012)- Provide software training to operational users and deliver presentations and software demonstrations to high-ranking decision makers (ongoing)- Lead certain projects in adopting IEEE-standard software processes (e.g., IEEE 829, IEEE 830, IEEE 1016) (2012-current)- Develop our nascent QA group (ongoing)- Design a state-of-the-art brainstorming-oriented conference room (2011)- Start a leadership reading group (2013)- Organize a team to introduce an internal Wiki to facilitate company-wide knowledge sharing, in the process creating six new leadership roles (2006)- Organize our seminar series (2005-2007)

Author of JFugue, an open-source application programming interface (API) for programming music in Java and other JVM languages. Authored multiple editions of my self-published book, "The Complete Guide to JFugue." Presented JFugue at JavaOne and SXSW conferences. Thrilled to learn how people around the world use and depend on the library I built.
