Currently I am a Media Science Teacher for the SmartLab Studio at Bourbonnais Upper Grade Center. Students will experience various roles in Media with a TV/Media/Podcast production studio, and improve their writing, communications, creativity and organizational skills with a fully-integrated video production system while expanding outreach to the school community. I focus on Media and Consumer Literacy, the history of media, and film production.I was a teacher of Computer skills to K - 8th grade students since 1994. Both at Notre Dame School and St. Alexander, I supplemented the curriculum as well as focused on typing, MS Office and cross-application use. I also purchase technology hardware and software for the school, as well as supplies, and give tech support. I have provided professional development to the teachers as well.At St. Alexander in Palos Heights, I taught an Applied Technology STEM modular, cross-curricular program for seventh and eighth graders, starting with the 2009-10 school year. I revamped/developed a computer curriculum in line with ISTE NETS-S standards in 2011-12, although this was fluid to include new technologies as they were classroom implemented. I was the Coordinator for my department (the "Specials" - Art, Music, Gym, etc.) since 2006 at St. Alex. I belonged to every committee at St. Alex, since technology touches all groups in some way. The committees varied widely, from Response To Intervention Team to Social Committee. I was moderator of the school newspaper, which utilized eighth graders as reporters. For the school year 2012-13, the newspaper tried an online format.Specialties: I was an approved Professional Development Provider by the State of Illinois through 2014, when they discontinued the program. I was president of ICE Chip, a division of ICE (Illinois Computing Educators) from 1996-2010, and again from 2012-2013. Now IDEA, we provide local Professional Development opportunities in the area of technology to our membership. I am most fluent with the Apple/Macintosh systems, but am familiar with Windows from 3.11 - 10 as well. I-Safe certified in May, 2008, to teach internet safety. Under the new system in 2014, I have a valid Illinois teaching license with endorsements to teach Kindergarten through ninth grade elementary self-contained general education and as a technology specialist for Kindergarten through twelfth grade. As of 2020, I have a valid Indiana teaching license for an Elementary Generalist for grades Kindergarten through sixth grade, and Technology Education for fifth through twelfth grade.
