AQUACULTURE AND ANALYTICAL LABS – RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENTAs the head of aquaculture and analytical research laboratories, my responsibilities would include.1. Laboratory Management:• Head all aquaculture and analytical research laboratories across India.• Establish new laboratories in different locations, including coordinating legal matters related to the rental, sale deeds, and licenses.• Design the layout of the laboratories and coordinate with the interior design team.• Oversee the maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments.• Manage the operational activities of all laboratories.• Coordinate with various teams to ensure timely execution of work.• Implement processes and suggest improvements where necessary.• Liaise closely with the Managing Director to address problem areas.2. Procurement and Inventory Management:• Procure quotes for instruments, chemicals, and reagents, and forward them to the purchase and stores team.• Create material codes for instruments, chemicals, reagents, and other laboratory needs.• Manage inventory and ensure the availability of necessary supplies.3. Marketing and Sales Support:• Design brochures, price lists, and test reports for the laboratories.• Provide technical services and solutions to customers.• Coordinate with the IT team to design the point-of-service system and sales app.• Interact with customers to increase the inflow of customers and provide technical services.• Increase sales by providing technical services to customers.4. Team Management and Training:• Prepare Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the team.• Provide training on laboratory procedures and equipment operation.• Create job descriptions and recruit candidates for the laboratories.• Provide technical training to laboratory technicians and sales teams.• Conduct team meetings to upgrade technical knowledge.5. Research and Development:• Develop new methodologies for aquaculture and analytical challenges.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT 1. Research and Development Objectives:• Reduction of vibrios and other pathogens: Develop processes and protocols to effectively reduce the presence of vibrios and other pathogens in the hatchery system. This involves studying the factors contributing to pathogen growth and identifying strategies to control and minimize their impact on shrimp health.• Continuous monitoring and biosecurity enhancements: Implement and enhance biosecurity measures in the hatcheries to prevent the introduction and spread of pathogens. This includes monitoring water quality, implementing disinfection protocols, and establishing protocols for the hygienic handling of equipment, supplies, and personnel.• Improvement of system and process quality: Utilize DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) process improvement methodology to identify areas for improvement in the hatchery system and processes. Implement measures to enhance the overall quality, efficiency, and productivity of the hatchery operations.• Investigation of Zoea 2 syndrome and Mysis to PL conversions: Conduct research and analysis to understand the causes of Zoea 2 syndrome and Mysis to post-larvae (PL) conversion issues. Identify potential factors affecting these processes and develop measures to improve the success rate of larvae development and survival.2. Activities Handled in Hatchery Departments:• Micro-algae: Isolation, identification, culturing, and mass production of marine microalgae and diatoms for use as live feed in larval rearing. Troubleshoot problems and maintain appropriate cell quality and density of algal cultures.• RT PCR: Conduct PCR testing and analysis of samples to detect and identify potential pathogens in hatchery stocks. Maintain and analyze PCR data, troubleshoot technical issues, and develop research methodologies.• Microbiology: Isolation and identification of pathogens from various sources in the hatchery.

Roles and Responsibilities• Teaching responsibilities: Handling theory and practical classes for both M.Sc. and B.Sc. Microbiology courses, cover subjects such as Molecular Biology, Immunology, Fermentation Technology, Medical and Applied Microbiology, and Biotechnology.• Expertise in various disciplines: Well-versed in Molecular Biology, Immunology, and basic and applied microbiology techniques.• Project guidance: Guiding postgraduate students in their research projects in diverse areas, including bioremediation, Bio-Nanotechnology, Vaccines, Applied Microbiology, Fermentation Technology, and Medical and Molecular Biology.• Training experience: Participating in various training programs to enhance my knowledge and skills in specialized areas such as Bio-Nanotechnology, Immunological and Microbiological tests, Biodegradation and Bioremediation, and Introduction to Bioinformatics.• Collaborative research: Acting as a co-worker in the Ph.D. works of Dr. Jaishankar, focusing on the activity of lipase enzyme to polymers, and Dr. M. Satyanathan, exploring the bio-degradation of industrial effluent with cyanobacteria.
