Principal Software EngineerAllergan Data Labs Jan 2022 - PresentIrvine, California, Us- Engineer and engineering influencer across the entire organization- Lead the backend chapter of the engineering group- GraphQL Supergraph Champion; founder and head of GraphQL Governance Council across multiple GraphQL Microservices.- Lead of the DevEx, Platform, and Core Services teams.- Strong focus on automation and making "doing the right thing" easy to do- Organizational "consultant" (not actually a consultant, but the same vibe) for all things GraphQL, Node, data architecture- Serverless expert, but I'm a middle-of-the-road user of Terraform and still learning the Kubernetes toolsets that fit our org best -
Lead Software ArchitectAllergan Data Labs Jul 2019 - Jan 2022Irvine, California, Us- Architected, implemented, and launched Allē, a new product (loyalty program) and the platform foundation it's built upon, focusing on performance and scalability for a service that can handle hundreds of requests per second (thanks BOTOX® Day). Obviously this wasn't just me, but I was integral in this delivery as the architect and lead of this team.- As "Graph Champion" (Apollo's words) designed, documented, and evangelized best practices throughout the stack, including an entire GraphQL Schema standard.- Founded and led the GraphQL Governance council to manage the distributed graph, the evolution of the standards, and the proposed schema changes adherence to that standard.- Under direction of leaders, founded and led the API and Backend Chapter (ABC lol) to manage best practices and provide guidance and support for the rapidly-growing engineering team (from 3 to [I dunno] 50-something?). Used this as a platform to teach, promote, and advocate best practices for composable, crafted services and API design.- Acted as manager for the first couple handfuls of engineers until the team grew large enough to hire dedicated Engineering Managers.- As engineer-as-often-as-possible, was integral in the delivery of many of our systems, including the design, build, and launch of a payouts system that has paid out over a billion dollars to date (I'm proud of that one). -
