Software Engineer
Current2024: Guidewire, Java.- As the Rate Engine guru, I am occupied within Guidewire Rating Management.- Set to attain 'Ace' on Dec 11.2022 - 2023: SQL (T-SQL/SQL Server), HTML, CSS, JavaScript (React/NodeJS), Java (Spring Boot).Highlights:- Leading a team of 6 engineers to re-write a legacy web application as a full-stack web application using React (Front-End), Spring Boot (Back-End) and SQL Server (Relational Database).- After being awed by my robust Python Rate Engine, my superiors task me with a 2nd translation - Python to Java. Grasping the distinctions between the 2 languages, I utilize Java's object-oriented paradigm to devise a simple solution for caching - static variables! Where the gain in performance was only 2x with Python (from legacy), the gain in performance from Python to Java is over 10x! The Java Rate Engine is served as a Spring Boot REST API. Rating a policy is now as fast as 20 ms!- Prior to this I had mentored engineers on isolated occasions, but during this project I do so in a dedicated and organized fashion. Over the run, I collaborate with a total of 4 non-technical Product Owners by offering technical guidance and maintaining the Product and Sprint backlogs.2018 - 2021: Python.Highlights:- Utilize Selenium to build a framework for automating the testing of our insurance web application. This is brag-worthy because this framework, created single-handedly by me, replaces a long-existing framework developed by a team dedicated to test automation. For me, this is a side project about automation because the computer was invented to elevate us above boredom.- Utilize pre-processing ('pandas' library to read rates from CSV -> 'pickle' library to serialize Python objects) and caching (basic, built-in LRU cache) to completely re-write the company's Rating engine, doubling its performance. This is brag-worthy because being trusted solely with a $2B insurance company's premium calculations as a 23-year old requires incredible credibility.
