I have 19 years’ experience working in the journal publishing industry. I provide senior management cover, independent editorial consultancy and training courses to publishers, researchers and the wider scholarly community. I have extensive knowledge of research publishing, from independent small-community journals to large-scale publisher operations. I am able to quickly understand different workflow systems, their dependencies and interactions in the appropriate contexts, and can apply appropriate solutions from my range of experiences. I am experienced in working directly with editorial and production processes, understand how both teams interact, along with marketing teams and other departments. I provide fully developed action plans incorporating every aspect of a journal, or portfolio, to work in harmony with each other to fulfil set goals. I bring an objective, evidence-based approach to working which helps me provide methodical, detailed analytical reports that support my client’s strengths and identify areas for improvement. Research publishing and the scholarly community is a fascinating and hugely rewarding industry to be involved with, and I find myself constantly striving to know how to do things better, for myself, and for my clients. I keep up to date with technical developments, new products in the industry, as well as trends to help inform and enhance every aspect of my work.I am an advocate of academic community involvement, and feel this plays a great role in supporting both individual development and the progress of a better industry. I regularly write and advise on many aspects of publishing, such as peer review, author skills and publishing options, open access, editorial board development and much more. In June 2020, I was appointed President of the European Association of Science Editors (EASE). I was also Chair of the conference organising committee for the International Society for Managing and Technical Editors (ISMTE), for the 2017 and 2018 meetings, having been a member since the Societies’ inception in 2007. I am part of the Peer Review Week organising committee and am a trainer for ALPSP, delivering their 'Advanced Journal Development: Strategic development for journal managers' course.Links to some of the publicly available work I have provided for clients, and articles I have written are linked in my experiences and accomplishments, below.
