I worked to nuture and develop robust relationships between business and education throughout Yorkshire and Humber; in order to support the charity's enterprise education programmes in schools, colleges and universities for all young people - regardless of their background. I was responsible for raising funds, developing employee volunteering opportunities, managing existing supporter relationships as well as creating, establishing and developing new supporter relationships and fundraising streams.

I was responsible for stimulating, inspiring and supporting the creation of new businesses in the Yorkshire and Humber region. SFEDI accredited, I organised and delivered a wide range of group training sessions on business related topics from generating business ideas to starting and running a business and profit optimisation. I developed close working relationships with different partner groups including FE and HE - as well as established businesses - in order to stimulate entrepreneurship and motivate and revitalise business owners. I proactively networked in order to promote the company.

This entailed undertaking a detailed analysis of the key factors affecting a business and indentifying the key strategic and operational issues, problems and opportunities. I also provided accurate, up to date and impartial information and advice to businesses by personal meetings, telephone and writing.In a training capacity, I also designed, presented and facilitated a range of business courses in Business Planning, Marketing, Cash Flow and Bookkeeping & Accounts.

I had responsibility for the leadership, development and daily running of this award winning training centre and video production company. There were three divisions of the business: media training (Theatre, TV, Film and Radio), management training and video/film production. Located on a converted five-acre site it comprised: three auditoria, broadcast standard television and radio studios, dance studio and rehearsal rooms. International young people (16 – 35 years) attended a one year, residential media training programme: hands-on and vocational in approach, akin to an apprenticeship. I was responsible for the business operation including recruiting and helping to train young people in all areas of the performing arts, as well as marketing and promoting the centre. I also directed and produced numerous public theatre productions, ranging from Shakespeare through to musicals, contemporary plays and pantomimes.In addition, I was also responsible for creating a management training division - aimed specifically at the business community. As the senior trainer, I devised, marketed and facilitated a range of management training courses in Presentation and Communication Skills, Teambuilding and Handling the Media. These hands on, innovative and experiential courses were delivered to blue chip organisations - BMW, The Royal Mail, Sainsbury to name a few. As a result, we received over 80% repeat business and were the recipient of the Humberside TEC Business Training Awards.I also worked as Producer in the broadcast standard video production company. It was here that I worked on a variety of commercial projects including: corporate, promotional, training, sales and health and safety videos for organisations including: Northern Foods, Smith & Nephew and Saint Catherine’s Hospice.

I was responsible for the programming and promotion of a wide variety of arts and entertainments events throughout the region, in a diverse range of venues. I raised the profile of the area by attracting a wide range of big name companies and musical acts to the area for the very first time, such as the RSC and the Ronnie Scott Quintet. I coordinated the marketing, promotion, administration and house management for all events and was involved in the preparation of contracts for visiting artists, annual budgets relating to arts and entertainments, as well as submitting successful grant applications to regional and national agencies including the Arts Council.

As the inaugural Theatre Manager, I was responsible for the smooth day-to-day running of this large, leading repertory theatre. The building included two auditoria, display/exhibition spaces, a bookshop and café. I was in charge of a large Front-of-House team and responsible for implementing policies, procedures and protocols.

Worked in numerous regional, repertory theatre companies and in London's West End. These included: Royal Exchange Manchester, Theatr Clwyd Mold, Theatre Royal York, Grand Theatre Swansea and Her Majesty's Theatre London as Assistant Stage Manager, Deputy Stage Manager, Stage Manager and Company Manager. From 1985 - 1988, I worked at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough for the unique opportunity to work alongside Sir Alan Ayckbourn.I also ran London's leading lunchtime theatre company, The Good Luck Theatre Company, where I directed and produced numerous productions.I regard this period of my career as my 'apprenticeship'. It was during this time that I learned both my craft and developed organisation, communication, project management (theatre production), leadership and teamworking skills.
