Duarte is responsible for the IT Services Department int the various KPMG Portugal entities. The IT Services Department is responsible for delivering quality services to every Business and Operational area in KPMG. IT Services has around 40 professionals in different areas and has evolved a lot during the last 6 years that Duarte has been responsible for this area.Duarte is responsible for the Helpdesk, System Admin, Operations, Application Support and Delivery and Communications teams. Duarte’s approach to IT Services has elevated this practice in KPMG Globally as an example for other member firm. IT Services is invited regularly to participate in pilot projects for the Global Network and we are perceived as performers. Also in compliance terms, IT Services has recently been distinguished as one of the top performers in KPMG Globally. As a result of this performance Duarte has been invited to be part of the exclusive G20 CIO Group.

Duarte was responsible for the IT Operation for the various ProCME Group companies. The IT Operation in ProCME is responsible for delivering quality IT to end-users, namely by providing the systems that they need to perform their duties, including laptops, communications (e.g. mobile and fixed communications), printing services, IT networks and servers (both on ProCME’s datacenter and on the cloud). Duarte was assigned as one of the three Directors that lead a 3 year Programme to completely transform the Group’s processes and move ProCME’s to the Digital era.

The work performed by Duarte in KPMG was mostly focused on building competences in IT and Information Security Departments. He participated in building the groundwork for the Information Security Department in major Portuguese Financial Institutions and in Telecom Operators. His work also extended to Portuguese Banks in foreign countries such as Poland, Turkey, US & Canada, Mozambique and Greece. This type of work included the definition of how the Information Security function would work inside the institution but also the definition of Policies (according to the ISO 27001 standard), Procedures, Risk Methodologies (e.g, Risk in implementing software applications, Risk Management in defining user access and profiles) and, of course, implementing these principles in the institutions (e.g. CSIRT, Security Awareness Programmes, Information Classification). Duarte’s work also covered the definition of IT Budgets, IT Sourcing strategies and its implementation, Process and Procedure definition and vendor selection. As an auditor, Duarte also completed many projects mostly focused on IT Processes and Independent evaluations (e.g. regulatory evaluations for telecom and healthcare sectors). Duarte also performed security audits/conformity reviews mostly focused on the implementation of critical security processes (e.g. generation of random numbers in gaming, security review for mobile banking apps). During the years, Duarte has worked in many different countries and with many different cultures, namely Europe (e.g. Spain, Switzerland, Greece, Turkey, Malta), US, Africa (Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde) and Middle East (Iraq).

Design and implementation of several platforms, the majority of which in distributed environments, using Microsoft technologies (e.g..NET and SQL Server). Among the implementation projects performed in Safira, the following were the most relevant:· Design and implementation of a Homebanking platform for the international operations of a major bank in Portugal. The platform was deployed as 8 different instances in 6 different countries (e.g. Poland, France, Canada, US, Mozambique, Macau). The platform received the award of “World’s Best Internet Bank” in 2005.

Development and coordination of small software development projects with up to 3 programmers for several clients in the finance and public sector.
