Beginning as an Aquatic Specialist, my role at the YMCA quickly evolved to encompass the Head Coaching position for the Westerly Dolphins Swim Team. I maintained both positions. As Head Coach I was responsible for a YMCA/USA Swim team of 100+ competitive athletes ages from 5-21. I coordinated numerous volunteers, designed and ran practices, attended competitions, developed goals for athletes, communicated with members, supported donor initiatives, and analyzed the team budget.As Aquatic Specialist, I helped develop program initiatives and support the operation of the aquatics department. I attended director meetings to coordinate membership and program initiatives. I also ran group, private, and semi-private swim lessons. Additionally, I supported lifeguard in-services, oversaw lifeguards, and lifeguarded.

While working at Sift and the (at the time) recently opened Mix rooftop bar, I quickly adapted to fill many different roles. I worked as a Host, helped document new menu items, worked behind the pastry counter, bussed tables, and filled shifts as a dish washer. Working in food service during the pandemic posed a dynamic environment where I strove to provide the best customer service experience I could no matter what role I was performing and to maintain an efficient and cooperative environment with my coworkers.

At Shennecossett Beach I continued my role as a lifeguard. I learned new skills and took on new responsibilities in adapting to beach lifeguarding including maintaining the grounds, drilling for emergencies in the open water setting, and supporting guests needs.

In this role at the Y in Pasadena, I was in charge of scheduling and managing lesson times for many families at once, as well as adhering to scheduled group lesson times. As part of my responsibilities I had to manage rescheduling lessons due to inclement weather. I was also responsible for communicating the different relative experience levels of my pupils before, during, and after the completion of the classes. While working with the Y, I used my years of experience as a competitive swimmer as well as my experience as a volunteer coach to great effect. I received many positive references from parents and students who had taken my class, including being featured in a highlight on the YMCA's facebook page.

In addition to lifeguarding, I also applied my skills as a teacher and competitive swimmer to help instruct young students on how to become more efficient swimmers. The program that I was teaching under was a limited program, designed to simply introduce young children to the basics of swimming, however I wanted to provide the best service I possibly could and would eventually provide opportunities to get kids introduced to more technique based coaching and stoke critique as they became more experience. At the end of the summer I had an entire class of a half dozen students who had repeated the course just so that they could continue to receive instruction from me. I found working with the kids gave me an opportunity to influence them and teach them important skills, and I enjoyed acting as a roll model for them. I learned many skills for working with students and parents alike to ensure that I was providing the best service possible.
