Daniel O'Brien joined the VCU Athletic Department as the as the Assistant Athletic Director for Development in December 2016. O'Brien returns to VCU after a stint at Siena College where he oversaw the Saints Alive! Athletic Fund which raises over $500,000 annually for the benefit of Siena's student-athletes. O'Brien also managed the athletic department's key fundraising events, solicited gifts for the College's Living Our Tradition capital campaign project and established various outreach initiatives.Prior to joining Siena College, O'Brien held the position of Ram Athletic Fund Associate at VCU. In this role O'Brien assisted with special events, capital project solicitations and assisted in the VCU Athletics annual fund which raised over $3 million in the 2012-2013 academic year. O'Brien also assisted in the seat equity program for the E.J. Wade Arena at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.A native of Washington, D.C. and Gonzaga College High School graduate; Daniel O'Brien was named the Assistant Athletic Director for Business Operations and Facilities at Niagara University in March 2009. At Niagara, O'Brien was responsible for the day-to-day business operations of the athletic department including: oversight and management of all Niagara's athletic facilities, overseeing the individual budgets of the 17 Purple Eagle athletic teams, monitoring travel, equipment and recruiting expenses and serving as the liaison with the university's business office.O'Brien graduated from Niagara University completing his degree in 2008. He majored in Sports Management while also holding the position of head men's basketball manager throughout his four years. The Purple Eagles went to the NCAA Tournament in 2005 and 2007.After graduation O'Brien spent the 2008-09 year as the Director of Basketball Operations for the Niagara University Men's Basketball team. The Purple Eagles finished the year with a 26-9 record and advanced to the National Invitational Tournament.
