Doede Vierstra holds a degree in business economics from the University of Groningen and as Registered Controller from the Free University of Amsterdam. After gaining extensive international expericience at Unilever, Doede has held positions in the Netherlands as CFO/member of the Board at Royal Friesland Foods (currently Royal Friesland Campina), Royal Wessanen en Nuon. During his career, Doede gained insight in all aspects of strategic and financial management: creating a strong control environment, ICT, risk management, acquisitions and divestments.A few years ago Doede has decided to shift his activities towards a portfolio of positions, allowing a broad social engagement. Currently Doede is chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Network company Stedin. Doede is also member of the Supervisory Boards of the Leiden University Medical Centre, the Pension Provider PGGM and member of the Foundation Board of Nyenrode University. For these last three institutions he also serves as chairman of the Audit Committee.Since 2009 Doede was Supervisory Board member of De Friesland Health Insurance, for which he was successfully assessed by the Dutch National Bank (DNB). In 2016 Doede was appointed as president of the Supervisory Board. In spring 2018 this role came to an end as a result of the merger of De Friesland with ZilverenKruis/Achmea Health Insurance.Next to his non-executive roles Doede is appointed in various interim assignments, amongst others on behalf of the Companies' Chamber of the Court of Justice in Amsterdam. Finally Doede is involved in several non-profit organisations, for example as chairman of the Royal Dutch Guide Dogs Association KNGF, and treasurer of the Hermitage Museum in Amsterdam.Doede has a balanced, analytical personality. As a colleague he is a teamplayer, stress-resistant and he has a positive influence on the people around him. As non-executive director he acts critical and with vision, but with the clear goal to support the management in its role.
