About Thomas Doerr

Thomas P Doerr is an award-winning, internationally-experienced architect and educator specializing in green design, including solar, net-zero energy, and off-grid homes. Thomas has been creating meaningful buildings since his first internship in 1983. He has designed successful projects as large as hotels and as small as light fixtures. After working at firms in Austin, Boston, San Francisco, Germany, and Denver, Thomas started his firm, Doerr Architecture, to offer high-quality, ecological, affordable, and personal service. Thomas is a certified Green Points Architect and is past chair of the Colorado chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Committee on the Environment. He authored the Green Architecture Checklist for residences, edited the commercial checklist, and helped edit the Rocky Mountain edition of The Sustainable Design Resource Guide. He frequently gives presentations at conferences on passive solar design, created a video, and recently released his book "Passive Solar Simplified: Easily design a truly green home for Colorado and the West."Thomas studied architecture in Austin and Italy, received his Master of Architecture degree from UC Berkeley. He has taught architectural design at The University of Colorado, green building at Naropa University, and is a regular speaker at conferences and seminars.
