I was recommended to become a tutor/teaching assistant after doing very well in both the Managerial and Cost Accounting courses! Through my role, I assisted multiple students per week with the various concepts covered in the course. I provided one-on-one assistance to students, and also provided mini-recitations if many of them have questions on the same topics. Student Office Manager
I assisted the Office Coordinator with administrative office tasks such as data entry and correction, to ensure we are properly documenting and accounting for each visit to the center. I also provided assistance to Supervisors and Office Assistants and ensure they are completing their work work for the day, and answer any outstanding questions they may have or resolve any issues which arise during the day. I had a fantastic experience during my short time as an intern with PwC! I was placed in their Consumer Market and Industrial Products (CM/IP) market segment and was able to get a great understanding of the procedures and operations of some of the different sub-markets in this area. I was able to assist with a 10-Q tie-out by reconciling numbers to supporting documentation, and learned of various tickmarking techniques. I also helped with control and revenue testing by picking and examining samples, as well as reperforming work where necessary based on the client's provided documentation and schedules. I had a lot of opportunities to work with the client, ask questions and find solutions or clarifications to help the team gain more comfort with the audit results.I was also given the opportunity to undergo training for various audit procedures as well as technology training relating to data analysis and data normalization. This improved my technical capabilities tremendously and I was able to further my understanding of how to extract meaningful information out of cluttered data, and how to present that data visually to be the most effective.
Audit Intern - Director'S Office
I spent my summer working as an Audit Intern at the Port Authority, and it was great! I was first tasked with talking to the managers of each division in the department about their typical follow-up process. Upon completion, I consolidated all of the different approaches and means of recording follow-up information into a single proposal for a centralized and unified system which would accomodate all divisions. I submitted the proposal for review, and made additional minor changes after presenting the new process to the department managers.In addition, I also conducted data analysis for the Revenue Division. I analyzed large data sets to detect trends and anomalies which would need to be further analyzed. After pivoting information and consolidating all of my findings, I created final drafts of all my work which would be used to prepare the work-papers for the audit. In addition to work completed to supplement work-papers, I also drafted contract abstracts for current Port Authority leases, which helped to provide a general overview of current agreements and supplemental changes to the leases which were analyzed for their respective audits.I also was able to attend site-visits for current audit locations. Here I was able to help collect site information and data which would be used to determine areas of improvement and prepare workpapers.
Legal Intern
I studied and learned about the steps and procedures of a personal injury law firm, which includes the pre-litigation, litigation, discovery, arbitration, and trial processes as well as the procedures that follow with each of these steps in the process. I also was able to significantly learn about the concepts and policies of motor vehicle insurance in New Jersey (and some in New York) such as bodily injury (BI) limits, verbal thresholds, and liability.I performed various legal office duties during my time as an intern, such as drafting legal documents such as answers to interrogatories, sorting and sending mail, and filed documents such as Summons and Complaints with the corresponding court to begin the litigation process. In addition, I helped to produce an improved file management system along with other members of the firm using Microsoft Excel, with specific utilization of conditional formatting to emphasize closed, open, and pending cases, as well as cases which had pursued UIM claims. During the end of my tenure, I restructured the office’s physical filing cabinets and settled case process to improve office organization.
