COM CM 714: PROFESSIONAL PRESENTATIONSThis course covers the essentials of effective presentation, from preparation (audience analysis, content development) to critical thinking when presenting. It is designed to place students in business and social settings that require a mastery of presentation skills in order to be successful. A combination of lecture, discussion, and hands-on practice and simulation, this course helps students exercise leadership through oral communication.

Domenic Screnci, Ed.D. is the former Senior Advisor for Digital Learning and Innovation and the former Executive Director for Educational Technology, Training and Outreach in Information Services and Technology at Boston University. Domenic serves the university as an educational technologist, instructional systems designer and integrator, instructional designer and a producer of curriculum materials for traditional and new media based educational projects. Dr. Screnci has a master degree in educational media and technology and a doctorate in Curriculum and Teaching from Boston University. Domenic has 30+ years of experience in the field of biocommunications and is also the co-director of Boston University’s online Master of Science Health Communications Program and Certificate in Visual and Digital Health Communication. He has taught an instructional design course at Boston University’s School of Public Health “Teaching Public Health” now made available in his book, Course Design for Public Health: A Competency Based Approach. Dr. Screnci is also on the faculty at the University of Massachusetts/Boston in their master’s level Instructional Design Program offering a Visual Literacy and Information Design course. Dr. Screnci is a member of the Association of Talent Development, Association for Educational Communication and Technology, International Society for Technology in Education, and the International Visual Literacy Association as well as a number of other academic and professional organizations.

The Loop Lab was founded in 2017 as a project to decrease youth violence and drug abuse in disadvantaged communities by increasing job opportunities. We operate as a non-profit social enterprise specializing in digital storytelling and workforce development. Our team works together to achieve three possible outcomes for our students: Education, employment, and entrepreneurship. Education - We believe that having access to affordable higher education is a significant career pathway when working with opportunity youth, which is why we have an official partnership with Lesley College of Art & Design. Through this partnership, our program counts as 30 college credits towards a Digital Film making degree. Students are also able to take advantage of FREE dual enrollment at Lesley College of Art & Design. We are continuously building relationships with other colleges in greater Boston to further access to future education for our alumni.Employment - For many of our students, making the choice to go straight into the workforce from program is priority. In 2019 alone, we have paid out over 1700 hours in work to students above the living wage in Massachusetts. Entrepreneurship - Unique to our program is our focus to validate entrepreneurship as an outcome in modern workforce development. Training entrepreneurship is a necessity in freelancing or developing an effective media arts careers - over 75% of media arts professionals will work, or currently work as independent contractors! Our curriculum covers topics like financial literacy, project budgeting, client relationships, business development, maintaining cultural identity in the workplace, networking, and how to successfully develop and to pitch a project.
