There was no interruption to the outflow of trained soldiers despite the imposition of significant HMG constraints including the 2-meter rule, householding and isolation which are not easily compatible with combat training.Key achievement: Development and implementation of a tool to objectively assess collective training competence (MIMIR) using data rather than pure subjective judgement, resulting in more robust, fair assessments and an evidenced after-action plan.

• Mentor to AMISOM Force Commander (Ugandan 3-star General commanding 22,000 troops) providing counterinsurgency advice and mentoring. Significant stakeholder engagement with other partners (cross-HMG, other governments’ militaries and state departments).• Team Leader for a team of eight British Military advisors/consultants.Key achievement: Building consensus amongst stakeholders to deliver capability upgrade to AMISOM.

Responsible for designing and assuring all individual and crew training on Armoured Fighting Vehicles.

Establish and chair a new Bovington SSAFA In-Service Committee to support serving and ex forces and their families in the Bovington Garrison area.

Bovington

• Responsible for all aspects of the planning and operation of the school with a £15M annual budget.• Team Leader for 95 military, 55 contractors and 13 civil servants and up to 200 students.• Risk owner for significant Risk-to-Life activity.Key achievement: Driving the modernisation of training, designing new training for new vehicles and the running down of redundant elements to make efficiencies.

• Owner of the British Army’s counterinsurgency doctrine (policy) during the final years of the campaign in Afghanistan (the drawdown was one of the most risky and complex phases).• Lead on the Army’s conceptual training for deployment to Afghanistan. This involved training all commanders in a deploying brigade (typically 2-300) for a week, personally delivering interactive training as well as inviting a diverse selection of external speakers.Key achievement: Comprehensive redesign of pre-deployment conceptual training for troops deploying to Afghanistan and application of best practice to those deploying elsewhere.

Germany

• Deputy to the CEO (Commanding Officer) of a prestigious British Army reconnaissance regiment, an organisation of 450 personnel. Responsible for the day to day running of the regiment including security, planning, intelligence, operations, finance and logistics.• Senior fund manager for over £1M of non-public funds, including a full re-write of related policy, collaborating with the Charity Commission and briefing stakeholders.• Included deployment to Afghanistan in a critical risk management role in the Task Force Headquarters.Key achievement: Re-role the full regiment and train in the new role for deployment to Afghanistan, overcoming several cultural hurdles within the organisation and its higher headquarters.
