Covering Matchdays for both academy teams and first team games when cover is needed - Matchdays typically involve:- Planning and discussing EAP with opposition therapists - Pre and Post match treatment for players (soft tissue massage, ankle/knee/shoulder taping & more)- Pitchside treatment- Planning and coaching dynamic warm-ups (youth teams)

During my time at Bilston Town, I focussed on developing my skills as a matchday therapist involving pre-match treatment for players, working as a pitch-side sports therapist under multiple supervisors, and I also lead the dynamic aspect of training and matchday warm-ups, as I continued to further my MSK assessment and gym-based rehabilitation skills.Although the majority of this placement had been involved with the club’s new youth setup, I have worked within the first team setup through helping out with setting up and carrying out S&C and screening sessions before training while also covering some of their matchdays.Working in non-league football is a completely different, yet highly valuable experience when working with limited resources during high pressure situations, allowing me to improve my overall practice.

After finishing my second year at university, I spent a full season working full time at Birmingham City FC in their academy setup, initially working with the U21 & U18 teams during my first 6 months before completing the rest of my placement within the schoolboys programme (U9-U16). During my time at BCFC, I was given the opportunity to:- Build on my MSK assessment skills, with appropriate justifications for treatment based on my differential diagnoses.- Planning and leading gym-based player rehabilitation sessions for a wide variety of injuries in multiple age groups.- Planning and leading group activation sessions for players, while liaising with my MDT.- Gain experience by using multiple screening tools throughout the season- Gaining valuable pitch-side and matchday experience as a Sports Therapist.Although being a difficult and ever-changing environment, my placement taught me how to quickly adapt to change, significantly improving my decision making and practical skills as a therapist. My stint at Birmingham City gave me super valuable experience as an introduction to working at a professional club.
