About Dominic Stanton

I am a highly motivated sports therapist, recently graduating from Birmingham City University having achieved Upper Second Class (2:1) honours. As an undergraduate, I have learned and gained valuable skills and knowledge during my time on placements at Birmingham City FC and Bilston Town FC, and within the university injury clinics led by third year students. My experiences on placement enhanced my confidence to deliver key elements within sports therapy including the ability to take lead within group sessions (warm-up/activations) and individualised rehab or clinic sessions.I have recently started my role as a casual academy sports therapist at Walsall FC, alongside my current role at GJPHealth.

During my time at Bilston Town, I focussed on developing my skills as a matchday therapist involving pre-match treatment for players, working as a pitch-side sports therapist under multiple supervisors, and I also lead the dynamic aspect of training and matchday warm-ups, as I continued to further my MSK assessment and gym-based rehabilitation skills.Although the majority of this placement had been involved with the club’s new youth setup, I have worked within the first team setup through helping out with setting up and carrying out S&C and screening sessions before training while also covering some of their matchdays.Working in non-league football is a completely different, yet highly valuable experience when working with limited resources during high pressure situations, allowing me to improve my overall practice.

During my time at BCFC, I was given the opportunity to:- Build on my MSK assessment skills, with appropriate justifications for treatment based on my differential diagnoses.- Planning and leading gym-based player rehabilitation sessions for a wide variety of injuries in multiple age groups.- Planning and leading group activation sessions for players, while liaising with my MDT.- Gain experience by using multiple screening tools throughout the season- Gaining valuable pitch-side and matchday experience as a Sports Therapist.Although being a difficult and ever-changing environment, my placement taught me how to quickly adapt to change, significantly improving my decision making and practical skills as a therapist. My stint at Birmingham City gave me super valuable experience as an introduction to working at a professional club.
