I started P&F after struggling to find books for my kids’ homeschool that included Indigenous history written by Indigenous people. As a Lumbee woman, I’ve gone a huge portion of my life without books featuring people like me-I don’t want that for the next generation. My online shop features a carefully curated selection of diverse and inclusive reads for all families. We are one of two Indigenous owned bookstores in North Carolina.My shop also caters to schools-especially tribal-providing the service of fulfilling orders for diverse and own-voices books. I personally do the research to make sure the authors are apart of the communities they are writing from. I’m a one woman shop. From the social media to the web design and from the customer service to inventory-that’s all me! I have a decent online presence of around 50k followers where I educate on the importance of reading outside of one’s own community. Our slogan is that Paperbacks & Frybread is helping you to “decolonize your bookshelf”.Currently we are only online but also do local pop ups with businesses and pow wows.

I actively participated in book launch teams, collaborating closely with authors and publishers to orchestrate impactful campaigns. Proficient in social media promotion, I connected with PR companies to enhance book tours and engage with a broader audience.Beyond my literary pursuits, I extended my passion for learning into the field of education. Collaborating with homeschool curriculum companies, I offered insightful reviews and promotional support across various social media platforms. Additionally, I embarked on a creative venture, crafting diverse homeschool curriculum inspired by different cultures, which found a home on my successful Etsy store.The wealth of knowledge gained from these experiences became instrumental in my decision to transition to a new venture. Drawing from my love for literature and entrepreneurial spirit, I have since opened my own online bookstore.

As a dedicated Social Media Consultant and Educator, I played a crucial role in empowering numerous small businesses across North Carolina. My role extended beyond consultancy, as I actively engaged in public speaking and teaching, delivering comprehensive sessions on basic social media strategies and branding. I served as an instructor at the local Small Business Center, contributing to the growth of entrepreneurs. Additionally, I offered personalized 1-on-1 consultations, catering to the unique needs of small business owners and even collaborating with celebrities.
