Responsible for a 270-person hybrid organization that included Marketing and Growth, Product Development (web and mobile), Product Platform (Identity, Money Movement and Investing), Internal Tools, Technical Program Management and Learning & Development. Teams were distributed across all time zones in the US and Canada.Key accomplishments:• Increased productivity by introducing R&D objectives, creating the first R&D playbook and spearheading initiatives to improve incident management, reduce technical debt and increase resilience resulting in a 25% decrease in on-call tickets and pages, faster incident recovery times and hundreds of thousands of deleted lines of code.• Led the consolidation of multiple products into extensible platform components and a single app, accelerating client cross-sell & increasing assets under management (AUM). This included many investments, such as a new micro-UI front-end architecture and standardizing and increasing adoption of a component UI framework, our GraphQL API and data model. Also invested in an extensible and componentized money movement architecture to increase instant deposits from 70% to 95%+, which enabled Wealthsimple clients to onboard and use the product immediately.• Grew Engineering by over 350% to 400+ engineers while significantly increasing team diversity across multiple facets, including gender identity, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and ability. Notably, increased overall representation of women from 20% to 30%, and of women in leadership from 5% to 36%.• Significantly invested in employee development by introducing growth plans, coaching circles for leaders, engineering leadership knowledge sharing, the Engineering Mentorship Program (now the R&D Mentorship Program), asynchronous weeks to adopt remote work practices and technology courses (custom lessons and access to platforms such as LearnEnough and ‘O’Reilly).

• Built Lever's first remote team in Toronto to stay true to Lever's values while nurturing our own unique culture. Resulted in hiring and onboarding a team of 16+ developers, in which 40% of engineers identify as female or non-binary.• Established and implemented an integration strategy that increased the number of integrations by over 300% to almost 300. This required implementing an API Gateway (Auth0), Webhooks API and enhancing our APIs to support rich and robust integrations.• Designed and delivered Lever Advanced Automation, which enables our customers to automate day-to-day tasks to streamline recruiting.

As a leader at Shopify, I established and grew high-performing development teams; hiring, onboarding and growing software engineers, leads and managers as well as creating opportunities for folk to transition into software development roles. These teams were amongst the first to develop and build new features in GraphQL and React, as well as to adopt frameworks such as Cypress for end-to-end testing.

Adapted the application frameworks we built for BlackBerry 10 to build the best automotive infotainment experience, now known as the QNX CAR Platform. First launched with Ford, it is now embedded in over 215 million vehicles across the industry including BMW, Honda, Mercedes-Benz and Toyota. first prototyped and embedded as part of the QNX concept car for CES 2014. As a leader, I proactively identified the opportunity and re-established my teams into two separate organizations, at BlackBerry and QNX respectively, in order to address the changing needs of both markets.

Led 4 cross-functional teams across Ottawa, Toronto and Waterloo, ultimately growing these teams to 45 engineers, engineering managers and project managers. Some of my accomplishments include:• Leading the UX refinement, architectural design and implementation of BlackBerry Cards, used to embed applications seamlessly into other applications• Turning around a critical social sharing framework outside my area of responsibility by driving the right architecture, identifying the best people to deliver it, and successfully transitioning ownership to a new director once the project was on track• After identifying common design missteps across teams, stemming from the need to ramp up an entire organization to deliver software on a new platform, worked with the [CTO of BlackBerry/CEO of QNX] to establish a global architecture review board
