Engineer 4 - Supplier Quality & Process Engineer
CurrentI am a Process engineer that has joined a medical device team to support their Supplier Quality Engineering team. I currently serve as the expert in plastic tubing extrusions for the facility and work directly with suppliers to improve their processes and procedures. I do travel to many suppliers for new equipment, validations and any issues that they are having.I have also completed ISO 13485:2016 with FDA CFR 820 Lead Auditor Training. I have also been working with suppliers as an Extrusion Process Engineer to help them become more efficient and increasing the stability of their runs.
Process Engineer
Startup company had large layoffs.• Putting project plan/costs together and start ordering equipment for a new 3-layer pipe extrusion line. Project pricing about 900k.• Create site drawing of the plant with all equipment. Start laying out new equipment.• Installing new pipe dual braiding line.• Running calculations for new, larger in-process reels. Draw reels in Solidworks and get quoted. Start working on new payoffs/take-ups to handle new reel sizes.• Install Zumbach ultrasonic gauge and computer system.
Sr Process Engineer
• Update extrusion lines from discreet controls to PLC/HMI controls. HMI is using new Ignition software. Worked with contractors to complete modifications and upgrades.• Work with TEIS (Corporate IT) to develop SCADA system to roll out to all other equipment/lines plantwide. This database has a historian that we developed specifically for our processes.• Set up machine network and server to isolate machine traffic.• Worked with TEIS to develop necessary charting, trending and reports for extrusion lines.• Integrated new gauging systems into line upgrades specifically, concentricity, diameter and lump/neck gauges. Perform analysis of data to fine tune recipe settings to work on our products and processes. • Installed 20 Area Safety lasers on certain production lines to protect the operators but give them the needed access to perform their jobs. This system will allow 2 safety zones and 1 protected zone for machine shutdown.• Installing and working on Phase 1 of a dual laser system that will measure the level wind of a reel and shutoff if tolerances are breached. Phase 2 will be incorporating the data stream from the lasers with the line PLC to “correct” the level wind of the reel.. Changed from driveshaft driven/discreet controls to HMI/PLC and AC drives and motors.• Upgraded older cable line with a new PLC, AC drives, HMI and safety systems. Removed old cat puller and replace with a large capstan which needed foundation work.• Currently installing LaserLinc data collection computer systems on 8 extrusion lines. These systems will monitor and collect data from up to 3 lasers (cold core, hot diameter and final diameter), spark, mechanical lump and Lump/Neckdown laser faults. It will give locations of different faults, calculate CPK and many other things. The reports have been custom made for this facility and are printed at the end of each run. All have custom HMI interfaces based on the specific extrusion line equipment and requirements.
Process Engineer
• Install, setup and train manufacturing associates on 2 new LaserLinc quality computers. Currently, integrating these 2 systems with extrusion lines for complete computer control.• Setup Beta LaserMike quality computer systems and train manufacturing associates on use.• Developing detailed work instructions to support equipment operation and assembly processes. Providing education and training to manufacturing associates.• Supporting manufacturing by identifying and implementing opportunities related to cost reductions, increasing efficiency, reducing waste, improving quality and enhancing safety. • Providing manufacturing cost estimates, determining time standards and making recommendations for tooling and equipment.• Determining root cause and corrective actions to resolve manufacturing issues involving non compliant product or material. Assist others in root cause and failure analysis.• Ordered new extruder screws for specific materials to improve processing and products.Transferred to TE Connectivity (Rochester Wire & Cable)
Process Engineer
• Developing high temperature fluoropolymers (PFA/ECTFE) technology for down-hole 3D imaging.• Developing XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene) technology for new power cable customer requirements. Quoting equipment for 3-layer power conductors to 12KV.• Developed Access databases for operators to enter daily line setups. Created detailed control plans for part numbers and attached plans in system to be printed with new work orders. Working with IT to develop a Geospace application to seamlessly blend with other programs already developed.• Plans created for installing laser OD gauging, ultrasonic gauging and inductive gauging on all lines in the cable shop. This includes all extrusion lines, cablers and armor lines.• Creating a quality system where new gauging equipment will print out run information (CPK, PPK…etc) that will travel with WO through every step of our cable making process.• Purchased and installed 2 new extrusion line printers.• Installing 3 new fixed center crosshead tooling designed for extremely tight tolerances. • Developed Solidworks templates for the Manufacturing Engineering department.• Analyzing data acquired from extrusion lines through Scada system to determine process capabilities. • Set up and installed tool crib for extrusion and armor lines tooling. This includes documenting, creating drawings, working with IT to develop specialized software and training of employees for use. • Work with cable design engineers and production to manufacture customer specific cables
