I left my hometown Vancouver, B.C. to get B.A. in Communications at the University of Washington, majoring in Radio-TV. That led to my first job in journalism in 1964 as a TV reporter in Seattle where I covered general assignment news and the state legislature. I left four years later to attend Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism then joined WJZ-TV in Baltimore as a reporter/anchor and attended Johns Hopkins University in evenings for an M.S. in the History of Ideas. Four years later, I went abroad and worked for VIsnews Ltd., a London-based international TV news agency. Over the next 10 years I was an editor/writer in London, a cameraman-correspondent in Kenya, Lebanon, and Turkey then Bureau Chief in Israel and Japan. My assignments also took me to Iran, Cyprus, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Malta, Korea, Africa and finally back to London as Deputy Managing Editor. I left to join the CBC's Parliamentary Bureau as a field producer in 1986 and moved to CBC Fredericton two years later, working as an assignment editor, news producer, reporter and anchor. I retired from the CBC to teach journalism at St. Thomas University in 2006.
