Responsible for the implementation of site build activities for GSM operators in Nigeria. Established processes and procedures to achieve high quality site builds within defined budgets. Provided continuous on-the-job training to set standards for implementation of work in the office and in the field. Undertook complete turnkey site builds (civils plus supply and installation/commissioning of towers, shelters, power, RF) for Ericsson and Motorola (for Celtel) as well as partial turnkey (civils with installation and commissioning of towers, power, RF etc) for MTN, Celtel (through Ericsson and Motorola), Glo, Visafone, Etisalat (through Huawei and Nokia Siemens). Built up a team of highly skilled and motivated electrical and mechanical engineers to undertake SWAP projects, 3G Upgrades as well as RBS/BBS, RF and Microwave installations/integration. Work currently being undertaken in Nigeria and Ghana. A total of 250 complete 2G site builds, 100 2G SWAPs, 70 3G site builds, 400 2G/3G RBS/BBS, RF and Mini Link installations/integration.Over the past eighteen months have also branched out into the engineering and civil works design and implementation of IPP (Independent Power Plant) projects. A number of such projects are currently in process.

With the rapidly changing technology in VSATs and the growing use of the Internet these companies were involved in the design of VSAT networks for use by State Governments for Internet Service and Communications in the rural areas to meet the ITU’s stipulation for Universal Access. At the same time with the growing awareness of multimedia services, a number of such systems integrating voice, data and video were designed and supplied to hotels, business centres and private individuals.

This company was established to exploit the newly emerging market for VSAT products as well as distributed television services. Major systems were designed and implemented for Chevron, Shell, Mobil, Statoil as well as American Embassy and the High Commissions of UK, Australia, Canada. Was the first company to obtain a licence from the NCC to operate a VSAT Network with a locally owned and operated Hub.

GTE International sold its overseas operations to Siemens AG of Germany and the Italian operation (Siemens Telecommunicazioni Spa) became the major manufacturing arm for Siemens’ telecommunications transmission products, particularly digital Microwave. Since Siemens already had an on-going operation in Nigeria, it was decided to close down its operations through STI Nigeria Limited (the successor to GTE Nigeria Limited) and thus Siemens investment in STI was sold to local shareholders.

Was first company to break into this market with the sale of a 5,000 line electronic PABX to British Petroleum as well as a variety of telephone handsets for the general public.
