Owner operator of “Shorty’s Upcycling Studio” Don Glenn (aka Shorty). Currently the Operations Manager of North Forge North in Thompson MB. By trade he is a licensed Class “A” red seal automotive technician, which has given him years of training in the use of hand tools, electronics, metal working techniques, wiring systems, engine management systems and diagnostics, trouble shooting, time management skills. during the course of his career as an automotive technician he has held mentor and management roles and was shop foreman/manager of a heavy-duty repair shop in Calgary AB before moving to Thompson. Currently the owner operator of Shorty’s Upcycling Study and the operations manager of North Forge North. Some additional skill sets include blacksmithing and metal sculpting, woodworking including furniture making and reclamation. He will be instrumental in heading the re-design and guidance through upcycling the permanent center. Shorty’s Upcycling Studio provides useful, artistic, functional furniture and other pieces to customers using recycled materials from around the Thompson MB area. Each refined detail is specific to the materials chosen for the product, the artistic mood and inspiration of its designer. This is a unique and exciting business because he creates "functional artwork" with scrap. It takes an artist to look at and see the beneficial and useful furniture piece in recycled materials. . Most of the products designed will be made from unwanted materials from suppliers donated from around town, or Northern Manitoba. They are recycled and repurposed to be designed into its new piece. This business has its own interpretation of the original 3 R’s and it has become a vital part of the company’s vision: Redefining the three R’s – Reimagine, Re-design and Re-invent.
