Selective retirement rocks! 3+ years in and I've happily deflected several project offers to highly proficient safety colleagues/friends. Still, always interested in being involved in something interesting....something cool....

Coordinator of HSE programs for environmental assessment, remediation and engineering teams throughout BC. For every major construction project (pipeline, oil/gas/LNG facility, dam, mine, power-line, etc.), our teams do the environmental assessments and engineering. Highly qualified teams of biologists, archaeologists, wildlife experts, etc. work in small crews, accessing very isolated locations via helicopters, vessels, ATVs, etc. Risks include natural undeveloped terrain, transportation/logistics (helicopter, ATV, UTV, resource roads, etc.), communications issues, wildlife, construction activities, extremely remote locations, potential civil disturbances, etc.

Manage the EHS activities for Ballard, Mercedes Benz Fuel Cells and AFCC (who lease space within the Ballard facilities), including safety training, hazard assessment, systems auditing, incident investigation, chemical management, emergency response, radiation and laser safety, ergonomics, WCB claims management, and all related EHS program development.

Manage the health and safety activities of the company, including safety training, hazard assessment, incident investigation, emergency response, radiation and laser safety, WCB claims management, and related health & safety program development.

Ergonomics being a primary issue, the objective was to help personnel balance personal risk against patient-care objectives. Implemented an incident investigation system to help identify at-risk activities, and consulted on a wide variety of safety issues (radiation exposure, confined space entry, chemical exposure, etc.). Coordinated the hospital’s emergency preparedness program.

Developed and implemented the highly successful OH&S program at CanadianOxy Chemicals (name later changed to Canexus) which resulted in a reduction of the recordable incident rate from 12.5 to 2.0 over a four year period.
