This was the most important role I've ever had. On October 31st, 2020 my elderly father fell and became nearly completely paralyzed and unable to care for himself. From that moment on, my life focused on adapting my home to care for my father. When we were able to transport him home from the skilled nursing facility overseeing his rehabilitation, I became home nurse, orderly, nutritionist, physical therapist, healthcare navigator and advocate round the clock until he passed in his sleep on February 13th, 2021. This experience reminded me how challenging the US healthcare system is to navigate, how hard it is to coordinate care, and how absolutely critical it is to wake up everyday and make healthcare a little bit better.
