Aircraft EngineerRoyal Navy Feb 1978 - Oct 2001WorldwideI joined the Royal Navy in 1978 qualifying as a helicopter engineer and I achieved successive promotions, latterly working as Watch Chief Petty Officer of a large Anti-Submarine Warfare/Search and Rescue helicopter squadron. My duties and responsibilities included organisation of manpower, implementation and execution of training, coaching and mentoring for both junior and senior staff, producing appraisals, training and staff reports, personnel welfare and career development.• Project Manager for a Naval Air Squadron Maintenance Unit. I held responsibility for the management of a team of 8 multi-traded engineers involving the systematic strip, survey, repair and rebuild of Seaking Mk 6 helicopters. I planned, monitored and controlled resources to maximise efficiency and completed the overhauls to specification and within deadline. Achievement: The successful completion of 4 refurbished airframes delivered in flying condition back to the squadron over a 20 month period, all delivered to specified quality and within strict timescale.•Watch Chief Petty Officer for a multi-traded helicopter maintenance team I was responsible for fault diagnosing, servicing and repair of a 10 aircraft Naval Air Squadron incorporating a Search and Rescue aircraft to be available at short notice. This also required planning and preparation of resources, to ensure aircraft availability, to meet busy flying programmes. •Managed the Naval Air Station aviation fuel and salvage department. Responsibilities included the supply and accounting of aviation fuel (£1m budget). The planning and subsequent implementation of salvage procedures in the event of recovering downed aircraft. •A fully accredited technical instructor and was responsible for the design and instruction of technical training courses. I carried out training in mechanical systems for both junior and senior engineers and aircrew which necessitated assessment through student progress and performance reports and examining..
