As Vice President, Specialty Procurement, responsible for overseeing beer, wine, spirits and tobacco products for all 4 divisions and 100 stores representing $48 million in annual sales. Directed all merchandising planogram sets, advertising, pricing, new product procurement, employee training, state alcohol and tobacco policy matters, supplier/vendor relations, and contract negotiations. Supervised a staff of five including category buyers, a field specialist and directed over 100 department heads in the alcohol and tobacco areas. My responsibilities extended over the states of Indiana, Ohio, and Illinois.• Increased beer and wine sales 40% over 5 years by observing customer buying habits and responding to changing palates.• Migrated store merchandising from generic brands to more specialized, high-end retail items with both a domestic and international scope resulting in higher velocity sales and higher margins.• Established strong partnerships with suppliers that allowed the company to often have “first pick” of new items, providing a competitive advantage.• Conducted wine seminars for employees and trained in-store stewards to respond effectively to customer needs.• Individualized retail product mix by store and location, tailoring merchandising to meet the needs of customers by geographic location.
