Aug 2007 - 2009

Senior Software Engineer

New Hermes, Inc

Implemented Windows NT and Windows 95 printer drivers for producing HPGL to send to New Hermes engraving tables. Drivers were written in C with a smattering of 8086 assembler. During this period I also wrote the user's manual, technical reference, and design for PAL, a 2-D CAD program specifically designed to be an intuitive and easy-to-use replacement for the New Hermes Open System DOS software. During its development I led a team of up to three others in coding, help file development and testing. Windows NT was used as a development platform with Windows 95 and NT as targets. The design is heavily object-oriented; coding was in C++ using MFC and several third-party libraries. Tools: Microsoft C, Microsoft C++, Purify, Code Wizard, Bounds CheckerEnvironment: DOS, Windows 95, Windows NT

Dec 1995 - Mar 1998

Software Engineer

Miles, Inc.

Maintained and enhanced real-time Windows 3.1 instrument data collection program for hematology analyzer. This was a C program written mostly in French. Using C++, MFC and OOP I implemented a program for translating Windows executables to foreign languages by writing directly to the resource. Target languages were German, French, Spanish, Italian and Japanese (katakana). Because all of this software was used in support of a medical device, it was subject to review by the FDA. All fixes, development and testing was thoroughly structured and documented according to in-place procedures. I participated in preparation for ISO-9002 certification.Tools: Microsoft C, Microsoft C++, 8086 Assembler, MFC, Btrieve, CodeView, Bounds CheckerEnvironment: Unix, DOS, Windows, Windows For Workgroups, Windows NT

Mar 1993 - Dec 1995

Staff Programmer

For a brief time before the Internet became popular, Prodigy was the leading on-line service. During that period I designed and implemented a modular user interface for the DOS install program, then ported same to Apple ][ and wrote the entire install for that platform. The PC code was C but, because of space constraints, the Apple code was a mixture of C and 6502 assembler. I also designed and implemented the Macintosh Install program, all in C and acted as technical advisor for the Windows Install. I took the initiative to write a run-time dialog box language which was incorporated into both the Windows and Macintosh version of the Prodigy "reception system" (equivalent to a very smart browser). I ported the entire "reception system" to several new Macintosh compilers and re-wrote the entire file module for Macintosh. Nearly all work at Prodigy was done in C using Microsoft and MPW tools.
