I am the lucky guy who gets to be the director of the Sibling Support Project. I am probably best known for creating Sibshops--lively programs for young brothers and sisters of kids with special needs. Currently, there are over 375 Sibshops in eight countries. As supporting siblings of people of disabilities across the lifespan has been my life’s work, I created the online groups SibTeen, Sib20, and SibNet that connect thousands of siblings from around the world with their peers every day. I am also the senior author or editor of seven books for and about families of people with disabilities. I have conducted workshops on sibling issues and Sibshop facilitator trainings in all 50 states, most Canadian provinces, and nine other countries. Our efforts to reach out to siblings has been featured on ABC News’ 20/20, National Public Radio and in The New York Times, The Washington Post and elsewhere. Brothers and sisters will be in the lives of family members with special needs longer than anyone.
