Reach Out For Computer Science

West Lafayette, In, Us

Educated students from elementary to high school about computer science. I help teach basic computer science topics such as thinking programmatically and how to solve problems using programming. With younger students we tend to teach what computer science is about and lead into a simple Scratch programming. As a group, we have been able to teach young Girl Scouts (around the 4th-5th grade age group) recreate Flappy Birds on Scratch.Other activities involve using MIT App inventor to make Magic 8 Ball and Xylophones. I have also written lesson plans that could be taught in high schools. For example, 2 other ROCs students and I wrote a Audino lesson plan that taught how to program the Audino to send signals to a breadboard to make a LED light flash.

Admin Camp Counselor - Computer Science Activities

West Lafayette, In, Us

Activities that I was apart of was creating a Minecraft + Python lesson plan. This was used in the Adventures in Computer Science Summer Camp in 2015. The overall activity for the kids was to experience using Raspberry Pi 2's with Minecraft. This showed them that anyone no matter how big or small almost everything they deal with today has a computer inside of it. Secondly, the students were able to program games inside Minecraft and helped them developed Python Programming skills. At the end of the camp they were given a challenge within a Minecraft Map to try and solve using Python. The overall challenge is very difficult to complete if you were to play the game normally. But, with the help of Python they were able to "hack" their way to victory.

Adventures In Computer Science

West Lafayette, In, Us

I helped middle school students get excited about learning and thinking like a computer scientist. I walked them through block programming with Scratch. We did projects such as recreating Flappy Birds and creating Fractal Trees. I taught them how to program robots in Basic Stamp which were used in our Boe-Bots. Finally, I helped them program applications on Android Kindles with MIT App Inventor 2 and our big project there was to make an algebraic calculator.

Software Engineer Intern

Norwalk, Connecticut, Us

I worked on a full stack software development project. My task was to create Document History which works like the Google Chrome History function. But in this case, each time a PDF file was open while using the Filings application within the FactSet Workstation it would log that meta-data. As a result, this created an easy way for users to backtrack what they have already looked at.I created a back end service in nodeJS that queried results from a SQL database. Then, I created a front end application using AngularJS, HTML5, and CSS to help create the DocHistory widget view. Due to extra time, I was able to further improve the functionality of the widget. I was able to expand this project and allow users to favorite documents and sort their favorites into folders.

May 2015 - Aug 2015

Summer Intern

Indianapolis, Indiana, Us

I was a software tester of their newly purchased enterprise resource planning system, Plex. I helped configure the software based on the needs of MPI and ABC metals. I developed the ABC Plex Part Configurator that synced up with Microsoft SharePoint, which replicated a online form where customers would use to place orders. The purpose of the program was to reduce time spent making individual "parts" that ABC Metals' would use in Plex. The software was written in C# with Microsoft Visual Studio. It was developed in an agile theory of development with a few trips to Logansport, Indiana where ABC Metals' plant was located and talked to the people who would be using the program to meet their needs.
