Meeting with a railroad team as they perform their morning briefing and communicating with them the importance of a thorough risk awareness of their daily tasks, not leaving out the most crucial ingredient, communication. Performing a risk based inspection that is one of quality not quantity which includes; walking all switches looking closely at each component, inspecting from a hirail vehicle, walking tracks, communicating with the rail road representative on any issues they may be having and also any future projects. Inspection of hirail vehicles and any other equipment as required by RMM rules. Making sure that a railroad inspector/supervisor is taking the proper remedial action(s) when the situation arises. Attentive listening to all job briefings with dispatchers and coworkers, making sure all are on the same page. As an inspector we are also involved in investigating railroad track and grade crossing accidents, trespasser incidents, blocked crossing incidents and any concern that may arise from a citizen. Lastly I collaborated with Norfolk Southern to eliminate various rail conditions that could have become hazardous.
