I am Cofounder and COO of Peri, formerly known as identifyHer. Peri is a digital health company leading the way in AI-driven solutions for women going through perimenopause and beyond. We are addressing the unmet needs is Women's Health by firstly developing a wearable biosensor to detect and track perimenopausal symptoms. The world needs more successful companies to address women's health as most of the knowledge we have created in health, medicine and disease has been developed in men - Women have different physiology, have different symptom profiles and can respond differently to medication. I want to bring my passion for knowledge creation and innovation to address important issues in women's health. I bring a range of skills and experience to this role as during my tenure at DCU, I was Director of the National Institute for Cellular Biotechnology (2017-2022), Head of the 3U Diabetes Partnership (2011-2022) and established the Centre for Preventive Medicine (2009). My research background is in the area of human physiology, with a particular emphasis on energy metabolism and exercise physiology. The projects I was involved in focused on the prevention and prediction of chronic disease (especially Type 2 diabetes) and understanding how lifestyle contributes to the progression toward disease as we age.

Head, 3U Diabetes3U Partnership Jan 2011 - Oct 2022Dublin City University, Rcsi And Nui MaynoothThe 3U Diabetes Partnership is a major strategic initiative that combines the research expertise of two research intensive, non-medical Universities (Dublin City University, NUI Maynooth) in the Dublin region with Ireland’s largest medical school (Royal College of Surgeons Ireland) and its associated hospital based Clinical and Translational Research Centres. The mission of the TRH is to address the unmet needs in the treatment of diseases and focus on an output that is targeted towards delivery. It will not only play an important role in advancing biomedical science, but will also deliver key innovations to the industry sector which is of critical importance to our economy. The 3U Diabetes Partnership is a multi-disciplinary research consortium comprising clinicians and researchers that (i) undertake novel inter-disciplinary research to create novel treatment and preventive approaches and (ii) improve the clinical management of patients with diabetes. We have developed an integrated translational research model, designed to facilitate industry partners, by providing a single interface for diabetes research in Ireland.

Director, Centre For Preventive MedicineDublin City University Jan 2010 - 2015The Centre for Preventive Medicine (CPM) at Dublin City University is a unique research centre aimed at preventing or delaying the morbidity and mortality associated with common chronic diseases. The CPM focuses on diabetes, cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease and musculoskeletal disorders. We integrate basic, translational and applied research to reduce the development and progression of disease through:(i) Human Translational Research to identify novel responses to disease intervention and translate promising basic research findings into effective preventive or therapeutic strategies.(ii) Cell and Molecular Physiology to provide a basic science approach to understanding the pathophysiology and progression of disease as well as identifying novel therapeutic targets(iii) Population Health to develop, modify and implement effective evidence based interventions.Together, clinicians and scientists in the CPM work together to: (i) identify early biological markers of disease (ii) develop effective physiological, behavioural and pharmacological interventions (iii) investigate cellular and molecular mechanisms of disease pathophysiology (iv) implement hospital and community-based prevention programmes. -
