Veterans Outreach Coordinator
CurrentOperation Outreach (signature program for the Epilepsy Foundation of Kentuckiana) is an advocacy, educational, and outreach program and vital to Kentucky veterans living with post traumatic epilepsy (PTE) and psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES) resulting from traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Kentucky is home to an estimated 339,000 veterans, and the Epilepsy Foundation of Kentuckiana's Operation Outreach program is the only program of its kind serving veterans living with post traumatic epilepsy and psychogenic non-epileptic seizures.• Assist veterans and their families in navigating the medical and rehabilitation maze as they seek appropriate medical and mental health care for their traumatic brain injury (TBI), post-traumatic epilepsy (PTE), and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). • Develop strong working relationships with medical professionals at both Universities of Kentucky and Louisville neurology and psychology departments, the VA Hospitals in Lexington and Louisville, regional clinics, etc. • Work directly with the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs and members of the Veterans, Military Affairs, and Public Affairs committee keeping them abreast of the work being done through Operation Outreach, as the Foundation provides support and service to veterans and their families affected by neurological and mental health conditions being addressed. • Advocate for veterans impacted by Traumatic Brain Injury, Post Traumatic Epilepsy, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder when barriers prevent them from accessing appropriate benefits and services, or are discriminated against because of these conditions.
