● A successions of corporate identities all at same Palo Alto location starting Feb 1979: Ford Aerospace => SSL => MDA => MAXAR ● Working on a ground encrypt/decrypt unit that will be designed to operate in a wide range of contexts.● Conceived, designed, implemented and trained a software RACE (Rapid Antenna Cut Estimator) for rapid, easy to use & set-up for communications satellite In-Orbit Test (IOT) antenna cut post processing.

● Leading, designing and implementing a with a small team a Python, some C, and Linux based IOT payload measurement software suite replacing a larger third party product, that is no longer supported, with a simpler and factor of 5 faster system.● Designed, implemented and maintained an initiative management and tracking, productivity    promoting and resource portal website using HTML, CSS, HTTP requests, JavaScript, MySQL and PHP for Satellite Mission Systems● Researched needs and feasibility, rationalized approach, designed and documented recommendations for a modified satellite simulator development schedule to better serve increasing internal SSL needs.

As manager grew Systems Simulation from 7 to up to 30 engineers who designed, developed, delivered and maintained software products totaling 1.2+ million lines of code for satellite simulation, satellite ground control and test and orbit analysis and control. Managed a 1200+ sq ft lab for the assembly, staging and test of simulators and other products for internal and external customers.I promoted, instigated or conceived many s/w product new developments or enhancements including:● The migration of the high fidelity satellite simulators from hardware-in-the-loop to all software.● Established need, got funding, staffed and drove to completion the development of a high fidelity s/c CPU emulator (dynamic binary translator) reducing recurring costs and improving capability.● Wrote most of and made presentation to Senior Executives that got the go-ahead for the in-house development of a s/c command & control system that I later named iTACS.● Drove the initial development of iTACS, SSL's Linux based command & control system replacing a 3rd party product significantly reducing recurring costs and which has been sold to external customers.● Designed, prototyped and guided the development of an improved orbit determination methodology able to span maneuvers and estimate both the orbit & the delta-v's.● Advocated, obtained budget and monitored the development of EzCP, a tool that visually shows active communication paths through very complex satellite payloads.● Instigated, promoted, sustained with budget allocations and drove to completion the introduction of Linux into the ground software products in 1998.● Conceived and guided development of a 'data diode' that moved telemetry data from a customer ground station to SSL over the Internet while 100% protecting the customer site.● Guided developers and made decisions regarding feature set and look-and-feel for a very detailed 3D graphical satellite display driven by real-time DSS data with multiple user controls.

● Designed, developed and delivered SSL’s first real-time hardware-in-the-loop satellite simulator.● Designed and prototyped many flight firmware elements of the GOES I-M image navigation & registration system.● Managed, designed and helped implement many s/c simulators including hybrid simulators.● Conceived, proved and prototyped the replacement GOES I-M magnetic torquer controller that is simpler and more accurate that the system it replaced and which was chosen over a competing NASA design and resulting in a patent.● Architected and implemented a PC based 5400Hz real-time system with assembly level device drivers used for GOES Imager Motion Compensation (IMC) testing.● Conceived, designed and helped implement the ground based software GOES I-M solar pressure trim tab control algorithm replacing the original launched version.● Designed and implemented the system & software for SSL’s first servo table, used for 15+ years.● Conceived and prototyped an attitude control strategy, using look-ahead thruster selections, used and deployed in a satellite ground-loop controller resulting in a patent. ● Originated many key GOES I-M image navigation & registration concepts and made significant contributions to others resulting in several patents.● Took over a stalled E/W stationkeeping algorithm development using a Sun pointing strategy resulting in a patent and customer deliveries.● Designed and implemented Kalman smoother to estimate s/c unloads, yaw and solar pressure. ● Did launch and post-launch operations support for some of SSL’s early 3-axis stabilized satellites.

● Did program design, coding and production runs for estimation, parameter identification and modeling projects using regression, maximum likelihood and extended Kalman filter techniques.● Contributed to all phases of a project that modeled target tracking performance of a human in a high-G environment by fitting filter/controller parameters and loop topology to the test data.● Validated the shuttle remote manipulator arm equations of motion of via a symbolic re-derivation.

● Modeled, designed, programmed and ran Monte Carlo simulations including weather effects for various air launched missiles against area and terminal defenses used in support of marketing efforts.
