Summer internship work split between the architecture practice Roots Design Workshop and the building contractor GMC Civils both based on the island of Tiree. Within the practice I worked on a range of domestic rural projects at different stages of the design process, from initial surveys through to design work. This gave me more experience of this sector within the different context of island life. The time spent with GMC Civils provided valuable experience of working on a building site. Along with my fellow interns we worked on a new build house which was being constructed from insulated concrete formwork (ICF). My fellow interns and I were involved with the build from the setting out on site, through the foundations and drainage right up preparing the roof for slating.The time on site provided a great insight as to how the drawings are transferred on site, and also highlighted the issues that can occur when building a project. As a result I am more confident when detailing and preparing drawings for site.

Working on a range of commercial, restoration and residential projects including house extensions, café/restaurants and one off new build houses. I am confident in working on all stages of a project, from surveying and initial design through to building warrant and onto over-seeing construction on site while dealing with client and contractors.

Holiday work at Casa design to gain office experience. Worked on planning and building warrant drawings/applications and 3D modelling for on-going projects.
