Bar Staff
Experience working in a busy hotel that specialises and indeed is famous for its large collection of fine Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Experience dealing with members of the public and working within a small bar area as part of a team. In this role I have developed additional whisky based knowledge working behind a bar with over 500 whiskies ranging from official and independent bottlings of all five types of Scotch, with access to some 2000 additional malts that are contained within the premises. The bar also has a large section of Scotch Malt Whisky Society bottlings and working with these unique whiskies has helped educate me in the unique fashion that the society operates, in terms of the codes used for the Distilleries and the reliance put upon cask influence. I In this role I have demonstrated my prior whisky experience by creating tasting flights for members of the public and also by writing tasting notes for use in staff training. Experience in this role was also gained in waiting tables, following instructions and dealing with computerised electronic tills. Experience in changing kegs, cleaning pipes and general bar skills such as cleaning dishwashers, bringing in new stock and maintaining a clean bar were also built upon in this role.
Whisky Shop/Taster/Sales Assistant/Assistant Manger
In a position of trust and authority having my own set of shop keys. Ensuring the shop is opened on time and closed at night locked up and that the security alarm is set at night and switched off in the morning. Maintaining a clean and orderly shop. Taking stock and organising back stockroom ensuring they are ordered and all stock is accounted for. Using equipment such as a cash till and bank card machine, counting money and cashing up at night ensuring that cash sales balance with card sales and that the sales book balances with money and stock. Packaging orders for customers and businesses including writing invoices and ensuring the stock being sent out is packaged safely and delivered on time. Creating, publicising and delivering bespoke and premium tastings from small 'in shop' tastings with groups of 12 people to larger events organised by myself and the shop staff where up to 60 people were in attendance, at venues out with the Shop's premises. Developing tastings to the extent that the shop was known as the best place for whisky tastings in Edinburgh and was regularly featured in broadsheet newspapers such as the Scotsman - prior to my employment this was not the case. Working within a small workforce and building a strong and confident team within the shop with general staff, temporary staff, management and also the business owner. Developing a portfolio of new stock both whisky and merchandise and helping to introduce new reforms which improved price, product, place and promotion of products and also in the back of the shop with new stock reservations and also the effective and pro active use of social media to advertise events and products within the shop with effective posts reaching up to 6000+ people on Facebook.

Bar Staff
Experience working in an almost 200 year old traditional, charming and haunted Irish Pub, pulling pints, making drinks and dealing with members of the public from every walk of life. Experience behind a busy and at times hectic bar and inhabiting a small and narrow bar area. The ability to carry out and follow instructions was definitely required from performing tasks for the Bar Manager eg. refilling stock, minerals, mixers, ice and the changing of kegs. Taking orders from the public accurately. Working with floor staff dealing with food, maintaining order in the bar if need be, which was required once or twice and of course making sure everything at the end of the night was locked up and switched off. The Bar also served food so the ability to take and make bookings was also required. Comprehensive clean up at the end of each night, this consisted of all items of glassware in use being washed, coffee machine being cleaned, waste measured out and recorded in a ledger, a full restock of all bottles on the shelf/fridge , a back room dining area consisting of 8 tables being fully cleaned - tables wiped and cleared, floor swept etc - the bar area, front and behind being swept, wiped and cleared. Toilets, bathroom surfaces and floors to be mopped, disinfected and cleaned, smoking area to be swept, cleared and cleaned. Experience using a coffee machine, electronic till, card machine, telephone, Beer taps and use of kegs were gained from this role.
