Without the people I lead, I could not do my job.There were bad and good examples of leadership throughout my career so far, and I always heard, “never forget where you came from.” I don’t believe it is my place to say whether I am a good or a bad leader, but I do take pride in having my personnel excel. One of the best days of my career is when one of my Sailors pulled me aside and told me that I was the best leader they had in their career. This one conversation still sticks with me and has helped me improve my mentoring skills. The people I serve are what drives me the most.I know that I am a leader, but at the same time, I realize that my leadership serves the people I lead. Our Sailors are our greatest asset, and helping them gain job satisfaction is a top priority. My current position has me in a more managerial role than any previous post and has been an eye-opener. Although I run a chemistry lab, my main job is guiding and aiding all I serve with. Proud to serve the country.Although I enjoy being a manager, my satisfaction comes from operating submarines. Whether that means supervising the plant or adjusting chemistry, I find my career very fulfilling and look forward to embarking on my last sea tour.
