Most of the observations were carried out to determine moisture and clay content of these soils and their effect on the foundation of residential and commercial buildings, including other infrastructures erected in areas prone to seasonal uplift and subsidence . In addition, the various analysis were carried out to ascertain the impact of seasonal variations in groundwater level on structures erected in sites dominated by these clay-rich soils in relation to swelling and shrinkage. Further analysis were conducted to determine the compaction and liquid limits of lateritic and clay-rich soils, their effects and application in roads, rails and building construction. This was mainly performed to observe and adequately categorise the strength of materials used as sub-grade in construction of roads and filling of foundations of residential and commercial buildings.
